Yes its normal to feel sore after a good massage. They are working the muscles in a way that they aren't usually worked. They tell you to drink lots of water after a massage, because massage has tendency to help release toxins from your body and the water helps to flush it out. If the soreness bothers you, take an anti-inflammitory such as Advil and a hot bath.

I though the massage was suppose to feel good, but it was rough lol. But when he popped my back that felt painfully good. My body is quite sore but I know it is from all the toxins that were released. It's been a couple of years since I had a massage. Now I am drinking plenty of water.

well that sounds like what has happened, because that has happened to me before i became a massage therapist, try putting some ice on your neck and back where you feel like you are bruised. and that will help with the inflammation that is going on under the skin. and give it a few days and try heat, but with in a day or two you should start to feel better. next time you may want to try another massage therapist and you will see a huge difference

When I have had massages, some to at it too hard and the deep muscles in my upper back amd neck get really sore, then some times, it just a relaxed feeling{ whick it supposed to be. I would get another Mass. Next time. You are not supposed to be that sore, Maybe a new Mass. just starting out? Next time talk to the person in charge if it is a salon and tell them about it, good luck...

There are different kinds of massages. If you got a deep muscle massage that can happen even if it's done right. If it gets more painful find a different person to give you a message next time.

funny thing is, you should feel rejuvenated and light after a massage. the sore could either because the masseur put too much pressure on you whilst massaging or she's just not really good at massaging. i experienced it before and it took me 24 hours for the pain to go away. take a hot bath before sleep and make sure you have a medium-soft pillow for good neck support. happy healing!

two gallons of water is too much.
they say to drink more because they may have released toxins from the muscles into the blood stream (such as lactic acid) but clinical correlation is recommended.
it may be normal or abnormal. the best thing to do is to call. if it is normal to be sore, your m.t. should have told you. if it's abnormal, then you need to call and find out why.
have you seen your chiropractor? they may be able to sort out any problems you may have whereas a massage therapist might only be able to sort out the muscles.

i don't think that's normal. that massage person was definitley to rough with you. it's happened to me before, i should've told that guy to be more gentle in the first place but i was trying to be nice. you're not supposed to feel that way after a massage.
