"Renounce Christ, or die", what would you say?

2007-05-04 18:14:09 · 34 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Stone Rolled- It's not what I want, I'm trying to prove a point to an aquaintance of mine who thinks Christians would beg for their lives like scared little bunnies. He's an atheist, and once again I'm merely showing him how sadly wrong he is. But anyway, thanks for your answer.

Uh, "bonecrusher" is that what you would say in that situation, or is that what you're saying to me personally? Cause if it is, I can't figure out where all my medals for shooting expert while I was in the army for five years and two Honorable Discharges came from then. Don't make assumptions.

If it's any consolation, I was stabbed in my left lung for my beliefs. I pulled it out and forgave my attacker. Then it was off to the hospital.

Esther- Your honesty is truly refreshing. Live long and well in the Lord.

This question was designed for several reasons, chief among them the assumption by an atheist aquaintance of mine that the answers would reflect false bravado rather than honest reflection by people he considers to be hypocrits. It is with great pleasure that I have once again shown God's people to be the honest and reflective people they truly are, and have once again watched my atheist aquaintance bury himself under mountains of shame, contradiction, and embarrassment. Picking the best answer is going to be tough. With a few predictable exceptions, all the other answers were most appreciated.

May I be rather honest with you? It's really easy to sit here at my desk and say, oh I'd never deny Jesus. Well.....if a cold piece of metal called a gun were in my face, would I be so brave? Consider Peter, who insisted he would never deny Christ and then did, three times.

I would pray to God, in fact I do right now....that no matter what happens, I would never deny the name of Jesus Christ.

It is human nature to try and avoid thinking of death ! A Christian however by accepting The Lord as their Savior understands there is no one that will live forever . Death to a Christian is a given in all the teachings` of Christ ! We face death daily in the reality that it is something that needs to be prepared for at any time . Whether you die young or old , the preparation must be there in a Godly mind that if and when I die , I will be with the Lord for all eternity no matter when or how death comes ! Only true Christians` know and understand this , as in your question your point seems to be that there is fear in the thought of death to a True Christian , not so ? It is better to die young proclaiming The Word of God , than to live a long life with no knowledge of God and end up in hell ! You see , an unbeliever cannot think as a Christian , that `s why questions` like yours` are asked. So my answer to you would be , I`ll be in Gods` jury when you finally show up for judgement for killing me . I will ask God not to send you to hell for your sins , but it will be too late for you .My plea for Mercy for you will not be heard .. In life you rejected Jesus who would have been your advocate in the judgement after you die , and your soul would have been saved . Whatever choice you have made , and you take your last breath with it ,( to believe or not believe ), then that is "your final answer " !! There is no "phone a friend ", no "ask the audience" , and certainly no 50/50 !What a terrible time to realize what a huge mistake you made by not asking Jesus into your life while you had the chance !!! It is as Jesus said " It Is Finished ". Your only " lifeline" to save your soul while you were alive was Jesus , you turned Him away and now Game Over !! So shoot me !!

I would just say "go ahead, make my day". I know that sounds bravado but let me explain my situation. I'm 61 years old and life has been good but long and hard with many disappointments(as well as much joy). But no matter how much joy, the fact is I'm still living on a cursed earth in a cursed body which is getting older and weaker with age. On the other hand, my eventual destination is to be with my savior in an unspeakable paradise and I'll be there forever. I'd go now if I could. To want to stay here is like a person who lives in a ghetto and when he gets to a certain age he's scheduled to move to Beverly Hills or Newport Beach and yet he doesn't want to go. He wants to stay in the ghetto. The Apostle Pauls attitude was that(as he says in the book of Phillipians) he wanted to "apprehend what he was apprehended for". In other words, he wanted to do what the Lord had put him on this earth for and then he was ready to go. I would say ditto for me. Exactly my sentiments. When that day comes, I'm ready to go in whatever way it happens. A bullit in the brain would be a real quick way to go. The Apostle Paul was beheaded. That was a quick way too. Let me ask you a question. If you had your choice of 2 ways to go:
1)someone puts a bullit in your head 2)a long 3-5 year painful battle with cancer. Which would you choose? I'm not bagging on life. For me life has been good but long and hard. I'm just being realistic. Every christian alive today is living on a cursed earth and he/she should know that they will be in paradise eventually with the Lord. Why would anyone want to stay on this planet forever under those circumstances.

Not sure what I'd do, but I know that if someone did that to me, my thoughts would be something along the lines of, "Whatever your choice is, you will pay for this through the ages." When I die, I think my soul will be a wrathful one to those who have wronged others unjustly. I don't know what I'd actually say aloud in this situation though. Interesting question!

I can not give an honost answer. The nearest I have ever been to dying was once in a friends pool(long story, no time for it now). But that is not something that you can ask and receive and honost answer to unless you realy are holding a gun to our heads. So I am not going to give an answer, instead I'll just take the 2 points. Danke.

That is a question no one can really answer, even if they think they can.
No one knows what they would really do if they were put in that position. Its a whole new game when its you.
How many times in life have you heard someone say, "if that was me, I know what I would do." I have seen that happen and then that person was put in that situation and did just opposite of what they claimed they would do.

Well I have had a gun to my head... When he did it I told him I was at peace with my maker. He pulled the trigger it jammed and I am truly blessed... the peace that God gave me was the most astounding peace I have ever felt. Whether your Christian or not God is there for you in your time of need. What kind of person would ask this type of question to a Christian why not just ask it to all faiths.

I would pray that I would be as brave as Cassie was at Columbine when her killer asked her that same question. Our Lord died for me, so that I could have eternal life, so if this happened I would be absent from the body but present with the Lord. Would you?

It's been done before, some give up their beliefs in order to survive but still maintain their religion in private. The silly one's don't.

I hope I would be strong enough to tell you about Christ and His love for you. I don't think I would ever deny my Lord, but then neither did Peter. Hope it never comes to that.
