I was put on an antibiotic today for a bacterial infection on my skin. It is called Bactrim and wondered if anyone has taken it and had any problems? I took one pill after I got it from the pharmacy and so far so good. Just worried...

Bactrim (usually DS), also called Septra is Trimethoprim / Sulfamethoxazole each of which are folate antagonist antibiotics. (when you take it you should not take any vitamins)
If you are allergic to sulfa you would want to avoid this medication, but its side-effects are not significantly worse than any other antibiotic.
I prescibe it often for skin infections that are more and more commonly Methacillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRDSA). It is also useful for bronchitis is smokers and bladder infections.

Bactrim is a standard antibiotic. It is sulfa/trimethoprim. It works well. Just take it like it says on the bottle, and your infection should be over in no time.

I have taken Bactrim a few times and never had any problems with it. All I can tell you is that it is a darn good antibiotic and it works fast.

It gave me heart palpitations. I have heard other horror stories about these Sulfa drugs. Try an internet search under Bactrim side effects and you will see.

My son took it every day for years. They prescribed it as a prophylactic antibiotic when he had urinary reflux and hydronephrosis to prevent kidney infection. They had him take it every day until they did a surgery to correct the reflux and stuff.

He did fine. He had to drink alot of water with it and it made his skin burn easier in the sun.

Some people are allergic to sulfa drugs. Some people aren't. That is true of any antibiotic I think. My son is allergic to amoxil. I don't go around telling everyone amoxil is bad, it isn't. Some of these people with "horror stories" are probably just allergic. Some people are allergice to peanut butter, that doesn't make it bad.

yes, I was down to my last 3 pills and I broke out in hives, I had bruises all over my body, and my skin peeled off the palms of my hands, I was in the hospital for 3 days. Don't mean to scare you.
