The answer is no. However there are many safe and often more reliable alternatives to blood transfusions that Jehovah's Witnesses urge members to persue if they are in a serious medical condition.

These alternatives and explanations about what they can do can be found here:

As a matter of fact, Both my dghtr's have a rare blood type, Very rare. So rare in fact only 5% of the World's population has this blood type*, yes, 5 %. If she were to take blood, it would kill her.
Yes, kill her, the donor blood red blood cells, would start killing Her Own red blood cells*. Kill Her.
So, thankfully to Jehovah, & His earthly org., I was able to find alternate means for the survival of Both my dghtr's.

When a large loss of blood occurs, the Most Important thing is to 'INCREASE the Volume' of blood in the body*. We do accept other safer methods of treatment.

You will NOT find a Dr., Anywhere on the planet, that will GUARANTEE, your survival by taking/ accepting a blood transfusion. He/She may tell u ur gonna die, if u don't take it, But, he/she will NOT guarantee that u WILL LIVE, either.

As for the comment made by 1of the answererers,
"intravenious is not eating".....Well, YES, it is... I've had 3 C-sections, and when I couldn't consume food via my mouth, they fed me thru the I.V. It is eating.
Also, the immunizations, that is a personal choice.
Do you not know that the Flu Shot has a portion of chicken blood in it? And the Tetanus Shot has a portion of Horse blood in it, as well. Personal choice.
We (mankind) have health issues, all differing from 1 another, while 1 person could accept, a certain treatment ,another person's body may not be able to tolerate such a procedure/ treatment/ medcine. We all have to make our own choices.
It is our (man) right to accept or refuse any type of treatment.
Ya, never heard of gettin' a 2nd opinion? A caring Dr., would tell u so, if it were a matter of grave importance.

Do you (the reader), have your Medical Directives?
Not a good time, is after an accident. But, before. Does n/e1 in your family, know what ur medical directives r?
Do you have a representative? W/ a copy of ur medical directives?

* After finding out about the girls' rare blood type, I went on-line to learn all I could.

i bypass to tell you approximately what "they advised me at my abode": make certain, i'm no longer judging them. i'm in basic terms telling you what i replaced into advised and what I stated in return... *interior the 1st place: Acts 15:28-29 are conversing of ingesting blood. A blood transfusion is in no way a foodstuff product. *interior the 2d place: they do no longer elect to shield the very u . s . that they are so blessed to stay in...they might desire to study the tale of "The Little pink poultry". Thank goodness they do no longer vote! *interior the 0.33 place: they are uneducated. The Watchtower discourages greater practise because of the fact they do no longer elect human beings smart sufficient to verify they are incorrect. besides, the ladies persons are basically 2d classification electorate. can't pray outloud in front of a baptized male. everybody of those women folk can open the Bible and analyze all the super Biblical women persons. the completed element makes absolutly no experience different than nonsense. No Trinity? Jesus is Michael the Arch Angel? * Now, come on, how is this Christian? it is not. basic and easy in case you do no longer have confidence Jesus Christ is your Savior and God...Your no longer Christian. Shunning??? No guy has the final to choose...it fairly is exactly forbidden, God is the only choose. They carry communion and no-one partakes??? that's extraordinary. and that i'm no longer likely to be a million/one hundred forty four,000??? They baptize interior the call of their church, no longer as Jesus directed us to interior the trinity??? They handed me a Bible that the words have been replaced in. what's that each and every person approximately? they have a checklist as long as your arm regarding fake prophecies made throughout the final...Use of scare techniques??? enable's now take a seem at Deut. 8:22 " If what a prophet claims interior the call of the LORD does not happen or come genuine, it fairly is a Message the Lord has no longer Spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. don't be petrified of Him". i'm no longer petrified of them, i'm afraid for them.

even if I was not a Jehovah Witness I would never take of blood. a very dear friend had a big heart operation without blood and is doing great without the blood. many families have died from taking of blood. people think because we don't take of blood we want our family members to die. that is not so. we get the best care for our families. www.watchtower.org

Jehovah's Witnesses do believe in blood transfusions, but we don't have anything to do with it. Jehovah's Witnesses would rather die than have a blood transfusion. They would because they follow the Bible's directions, and the Bible says that we shouldn't have anything to do with Blood Transfusions because our blood is valuable, and you can die if they put the wrong blood in your body.

Well of course I agree there are other products..and I know that in so many circumstances blood is the only thing that is available and if it is not used the person will die..which of cours the JW's allow to happen. The bible tells us to not EAT blood..this is not eating blood....but it is murder..however no JW will ever agree with that being murder.
There are lots of reasons for not eating blood..but, blood transfusion is saving life..however..this is between the JW's and God at judgement..I am just glad that I honestly know the difference between eating and transfusing it...
They cite health reasons for not using it..they cite health reasons for not innoculationg their people against disease..science is not perfect..but it sure helps many outbreaks against disease in plague proportion.
We can die from the food we eat, the air we breathe etc..there are some things which people take too far, and in doing so they actually commit a worse sin.
I could be wrong..I might be right..it is one of those areas where the bible does not come outright and spell it out in no uncertain terms.

to riverkid01 can you explain to me how you interpret the following Scriptures?

Acts 15:28, 29: “The holy spirit and we ourselves [the governing body of the Christian congregation] have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled [or, killed without draining their blood] and from fornication. If you carefully keep yourselves from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!”

Gen. 9:3, 4: “Every moving animal that is alive may serve as food for you. As in the case of green vegetation, I do give it all to you. Only flesh with its soul—its blood—you must not eat.”

Note what these accepted Christian authors wrote...
Tertullian (c. 160-230 C.E.): “Let your unnatural ways blush before the Christians. We do not even have the blood of animals at our meals, for these consist of ordinary food. . . . At the trials of Christians you [pagan Romans] offer them sausages filled with blood. You are convinced, of course, that the very thing with which you try to make them deviate from the right way is unlawful for them. How is it that, when you are confident that they will shudder at the blood of an animal, you believe they will pant eagerly after human blood?”—Tertullian, Apologetical Works, and Minucius Felix, Octavius (New York, 1950), translated by Emily Daly, p. 33.

Minucius Felix (third century C.E.): “So much do we shrink from human blood, that we do not use the blood even of eatable animals in our food.”—The Ante-Nicene Fathers (Grand Rapids, Mich.; 1956), edited by A. Roberts and J. Donaldson, Vol. IV, p. 192.

Does the Bible’s prohibition include human blood?

Yes, and early Christians understood it that way. Acts 15:29 says to “keep abstaining from . . . blood.” It does not say merely to abstain from animal blood. (Compare Leviticus 17:10, which prohibited eating “any sort of blood.”) Tertullian (who wrote in defense of the beliefs of early Christians) stated: “The interdict upon ‘blood’ we shall understand to be (an interdict) much more upon human blood.”—The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. IV, p. 86.

Is a transfusion really the same as eating blood?

In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to “keep abstaining from . . . blood”? (Acts 15:29) To use a comparison, consider a man who is told by the doctor that he must abstain from alcohol. Would he be obedient if he quit drinking alcohol but had it put directly into his veins?

If you can explain why blood transfusions would be acceptable to Christians even though to God it is not acceptable, please share.

the only thing that comes to mind here is the story about the jehovah witness family that was going to let there daughter die because she needed a transfusion but the state got a court order to get her one and now she is disfellowshipped by the watchtower that was going to let her die because your founders misinterpreted the bible

It doesn't matter... The name Jesus Christ is what is important.... these people won't get on the train with Jesus so I don;t see what any blood transfusion or not is gonna help anybody.
