the tattoo is black outline and the person is pretty much going to get it covered up with either a heart or star completely filled in and have the current tattoo re-done elsewhere (its messed up) but she wants to know if she would need to do the coverup in all black in order to cover up the current tattoo.

Thanks Prave.. it's just outline, only smalls bits here and there are filled in, the whole piece is only about 3-4 inches. It's detailed with thin lines here and small roses and a small heart which is filled in with red.

well is it just a outline or is it filled?Darker colors; brown, blue, green, red, etc. and tattoos that have detailed designs are ideal coverups. Birds, Dragons and Roses make excellent cover-up designs.Hey any tattoo can be covered by a skilled artist with any design. But just make sure the artist is extremely good. Some boast that they can easily do coverups but thats just for your money!!!So make sure your tattoo artist is really skilled(check out his portfolios etc)...Well if you really think he is good then the best thing would be to go to him, show him the design and tell him what you want and the rest you leave to him..am sure he will know the right colour to use and the right design

I had that same problems years ago I had to get something big enough to cover it & like a rose & butterflies. So the size & my colors were red outline in green or black its been so long but a good artist will know what to do!

Hey Edie.....I agree with Prave.....especially about choosing an artist that can do a cover up. Take a look at the following link http://www.tattooartists.org/Gct22_Cover_Up_Tattoos.asp There are over 400 cover ups listed. I think you will be surprised at the possibilities.

Rider (inked with a cover up myself)

if it's something that will be colored in with a solid color then it will likely have to be a dark solid color but if it were covered with a design it wouldn't necessarily have to be covered with something dark. the best thing to do is go to the artist, you'd be surprised what can be done with a coverup tattoo.
