Was there a doctrine of the Catholic faith that was particularly difficult for you to understand or accept at first, and if so, how did you come to terms with it?

I was born Catholic. But a friend of mine recently converted, and he was very concerned with what he felt was an over-emphasis on the Blessed Virgin Mary. He did go through with the conversion and now prays the rosary, but that was a difficult issue for him. After a priest sat down and explained a few things to him about the veneration of Mary, he felt better about it. If I hadn't been born Catholic and were converting, my own personal stumbling block would be the birth control issue.

There were two. Confessing my sins to a priest and praying to Mary and the saints for their assistance.

I researched the doctrines very thoroughly. I found out that there was a Biblical basis for these doctrines. When I was a Protestant I ignored these verses. I also learned that the Church fathers not only practised these teachings but were also adamant about it. For example, sins of apostasy were confessed before the congregation.

I have a hard time coming to grips with how Pope John Paul II and many Bishops allowed these criminals who are nothing more than wolves in sheeps clothing to stand up in their parishes every Sunday morning and claim that they have the power to call Christ down from heaven in the form of bread and wine my God is that the God of the Bible???? Would Jesus respond to the commands of these Anti Christs?

Veneration of Mary and her Immaculate Conception.

I dealt with it like this:

Genesis 3

16
To the woman he said: "I will intensify the pangs of your childbearing; in pain shall you bring forth children. Yet your urge shall be for your husband, and he shall be your master."

Isaiah 7...66

13
Then he said: Listen, O house of David! Is it not enough for you to weary men, must you also weary my God?
14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.
...
5
Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: Your brethren who, because of my name, hate and reject you, say, "Let the LORD show his glory that we may see your joy"; but they shall be put to shame.
6
A sound of roaring from the city, a sound from the temple, The sound of the LORD repaying his enemies their deserts!
7
Before she comes to labor, she gives birth; Before the pains come upon her, she safely delivers a male child.

No labor pain=no sin=True Doctrine.

My family. Mostly my grandfather. I found no part of the doctrine difficult just my families displeasure.
