The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament. The Quran was written somewhere around 650 AD(CE). That was after the Old and New Testaments were written. The Old and New Testament Prophets and Jesus are in the Quran. The difference you are seeing is the difference in when the Prophets were living in times before Christ came. Christ is the Lamb of God. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus came to the earth to be the sacrificial lamb. They used the Bible as a reference to write the Quran. If you read them you will see where the Bible has been used as a base for it.

The Quran is a reiteration of what came before. The laws and teachings that were given to all of the prophets(pbuta). After the coming of Jesus (pbuh), the NT stresses life with Christ being the only way to God, which is where you see the split. God sent Gabriel with a final message through our blessed Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), that the words of his message have been corrupted, that people have fallen away from the original teachings and laws, which are stated in the OT. Now mind you what is in the OT is not entirely accurate because the text has been corrupted and changed over the centuries. But the general message is the same. The only way to Paradise is through God and God alone. Truly the God that is spoken of in the NT is the same God, but His message was misconstrued by the followers of Jesus (pbuh).
I hope that answers your questions :-)

FYI, Islam is the oldest Religion known to man, as it was the first to come, it was not "new" when Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) reintroduced it to the world. And the Quran is not based on the bible.

The God of the OT is loving and merciful.

Psalm 42:8 By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

Deuteronomy 33:12 About Benjamin he said: "Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders."

Yes, God told the Israelites to war against the pagans who blasphemed God with their idol worship and child sacrifice. But, this does not define who God is. The God of the OT is the same God of the NT...loving, forgiving and merciful, and he also will judge the world for their rejection of Him.

God has not changed
Why do people think this
In the OT, He was showing you that People are FICKLE. When things are Great in life, we give thanks to God
When thinks are wrong in life (because of our own judgment) we ask God why did He leave us or why am I doing so poorly.
God is God
and Has not changed from the OT to the NT

I think the Koran was based on the Bible. If I am not mistaken, they even mention Jesus but see him as a prophet not a messiah. Mohamed lived in about 500 AD. Since Islam started with Mohamed I assume everyone he was involved with was some other religion and changed to follow him. It makes sense that his new religion would be based at least in part on the old.

There was a "father of the church" who thought there must be two Gods, one of the old and one of the new testament. Of course he was banished by the orthodox.

Beacause God is God, and the new testament has been raped by so many popes since it's been written.
