I just ordered three bottles of ovulex, as I am trying to conceive. I just became aware that they contain St. John's Wort, and I was wondering if this will be safe to take. I'm on a low dose of Prozac (20 mg) once daily. Has anyone taken these two together before?? Please help! I really do not want to throw those $99 pills away!

Absolutely not! There is an increased risk of serotonin syndrome which could result in a number of complications, even death in rare instances. The only way to be certain would be to consult your pharmacist and psychiatrist regarding the dosages of prozac and how much St. John's Wort is in the pills and what the combined dosage would look like. St. John's Wort usually has a milder serotonergic effect than an SSRI and if you're determined to take these pills, your doc may suggest reducing the Prozac. I would suggest that if you pursue this course, at least make yourself familiar with signs of serotonin syndrome so that you will recognize it should it occur. Better safe than sorry. I'm a bit more paranoid about this as my friend's sister just went into a coma from mixing an SSRI with pain meds which effect serotonin and it is one of the worst examples of serotonin syndrome I've ever seen and happened extremely suddenly with no warning. Please be careful.

St. johns wort in small doses is not an issue for pregnancy. Also Prozac has been proven safe for pregnancy (I talked to a psychiatrist about this). St. Johns wort will boost prozacs effectiveness. Also prozac is strictly an antidepressant NOT AN ANTI PSYCHOTIC. Take yer meds and enjoy your baby next year!!

NEVER take St. Johns Wort with an SSRI...it could be fatal. Your life is more important then the money.

if you mean getting pregnant, you should not be taking any kind of pills. especially prozak. that is a anti-psychotic medication that alter seratonan neurons in your body and effects how you think and feel. that is the wrong thing to have in your system when trying to carry a baby. talk to your doctor about getting weaned off of this medication.

my drug guide says there could be an increased risk of serotonin syndrome when taken together... check with your doctor or call a pharmacist to be sure
