Yes. The bible says to abstain from all appearance of evil

2007-05-04 16:49:44 · answer #1 · answered by Southern Apostolic 6 · 1 1

For me the question is more: Do I think that I should place a stumbling block in someone's path.

I may be able to drink a beer or so without being affected by it
but a weaker Christian may see my example, think it is okay for them since I do it, turn or return to a drunken lifestyle and die in their sin without repentance. For that reason alone I do
not need a beer or any other form of alcohol when there are so many good drinks available that are non-alcoholic. When I was a young Christian I saw some people with a bottle of wine in their refrigerator. I knew it was wrong then even if I didn't understand the scriptures about putting a stumbling block in a brother's way. It was the witness of God's Spirit within me that told me it was wrong.

Some will say they can drink secretly when another person is not around to see it. I say, why take even the slightest chance
when it is not necessary? Shouldn't we be able to abstain for another's sake?

The Bible says...
Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Proverbs 23:31, 32
Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth color in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent and stingeth like an adder.
Read what happened to Noah when he became drunk in Genesis 9:21-24
These verses are pretty self-explanatory. Don't drink.
Many people think that it is all right to drink alcohol because Jesus drank wine. Well, in the Greek, there was wine (fermented), and then there was wine (grape juice). Jesus drank the unfermented wine, or grape juice. Since there was no refrigerating back then, it may be possible that Jesus did sometimes drink fermented wine, but it was avoided.
Also, we all know the health risks of alcohol, and as the Bible says, your body is the "temple of the Holy Ghost..." (1 Corinthians 6:19). That means that we need to keep our bodies pure.
My advice is to just stay away from it. God bless!

Don't some monks MAKE beer and liqueur?

I would say that if beerdrinking has become a problem in your life or your family's life, then it is wrong, because declaring oneself a Christian means that it is important to you to follow your religion.

If Christian religions specifically state that beerdrinking will send you to Hades, then either drop the religion and have a beer on the weekends, or stop drinking so the Christians don't call you a hypocrite.

Seeing that the pope magically declared this week that babies don't go to "limbo" if they die, I would say that Christianity in general is extremely open for individual interpretation of the bible.

As history proves, Christian religion has had hundreds of "makeovers" throughout the past 2 millenia.

Go with the flow and drink beer and keep on being a christian. It is better than murdering or molesting in the name of God. (ie: the spanish inquisition for starters.)

Deuteronomy 14:26 ...spend the money for whatever you desire--oxen or sheep or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves. And you shall eat there before the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.

Romans 14:21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.

1 Corinthians 6:10 ...drunkards...will not inherit the kingdom of God.

It depends on your heart. You can drink in moderation with thanksgiving to God, but if your liberty might lead someone to fall into drunkeness or if you lack the self control to drink in moderation, then you should abstain. Ultamately, how to define "moderation" is between you and God, and the intent of your heart will tell if you are sinning or not - if you're unsure ask the Lord to reveal the motives of your heart. Are you people pleasing? Indulging? Or are you recieving a gift from God with thanksgiving and using it properly?

Proverbs 20:1
1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler;
whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Ephesians 5:17-19 (New International Version)

17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

From my understandin of the Bible it is ok to drink but only in moderation it is only a sin when one becomes intoxicated but in the Biblical times there was no such thing as Absolut Vodka and other drinks with high alcohol content also I beleive that the only drink that was ok or acceptable is wine. Im my opinion no one should drink rather they are Christian, Muslim, or Jewish. I beleive that it should not be consumed.

i don't think it is wrong to drink beer. besides, it's good for the health right? the thing is, people expect a lot from us Christians. so, we avoid drinking it because we want to have a good testimony, to show other people who does not know God that we are changed and are living in accordance to His will.

Christians are drinking beer?!? That's nuts! It's not just wrong, it's devilish. Wine is a much more sophisticated beverage. Christians drink it at church, so why not at the bar?

Don't talk while trying to swallow. You could get choked. Christ drank wine. I think the point here is not to partake too much, not to not partake at all. I have never seen the word beer in the bible, has anyone reading this seen it in there? The same thing with food and everything else---don't over do it.
