They couldn't make anything but good and evil characters, couldn't come up with anything but "perfection, strength, unlimited power and knowledge" for a god. And their "hell" is just physical pain. Didn't they realize that there are worse things than physical pain? If the Bible wasa piece of modern-day literature, it would recieve tons of criticism for it's lack of depth.

Yes, I've read it. And you can't deny that the concepts above are superficial.

softballchick: You say to me, "keep your beliefs to yourself", but you aren't doing a very good job of that, are you? You're basically just centering your arguement around flaming me and my atheism.

Some characters do seem to be somewhat simple, but then again, the Bible was written for its meaning, not for entertainment.

Hell is not just physical pain, it is the pain of knowing that a loving God offered you salvation and you turned it down. In this life all people have a measure of protection and presence of God in their lives. In hell all that is gone forever. A person will spend eternity in regret knowing that they refused the love of God. I am studying the Bible and find it very interesting. You name it and it is there.

To me it sounds as if you haven't read the book.
You have to keep in mind the bible was written 2000 years ago.
Also, 'hell' is a place, and you do experience pain, but it's not physical pain like we experience here on Earth. It's a 'soul pain.' Your physical body will perish but your soul will live on.
Also, the bible is truth. No one 'came up with' only two types of characters, and if you think about it - those are the only two types of characters you find in todays literature. You're speaking on very general terms.

Who are you to judge? the Bible was written by prophets chosen by God himself. God wants the best for us, but we are the ones who deny him. Hell isnt physical pain, it is ETERNAL SPIRITUAL pain; you will suffer in spirit. If the bible was a present day book, it would be empty because there are fewer ppl who take the holy word seriously. Hope this helps. Amen.

I don't understand why you say 'their hell is just physical pain'. Hell is a place. People there are seperated from God and from each other. The physical pain is like a worm crawling in and out of your rotten body which catches fire over and over and over.
Why do you state on your info that you are evil? God loves you.

you know their are two people in this world good and evil. they created evil and good characters because they are only looking into the reality. god is powerful but he wont do cruel things to humans, he just made evil people to regret their wrong doings. another thing was hell was in their so it will prevent people for doing bad thing, its kinda bit of a treatso no more people will follow the evils footstep and beacuse everyone wants to live a good life after thier death(thats if the life after death exsit)

Ok let's pretend like you know ANYTHING about the Bible. Wait....that's right you don't, or you wouldn't be critizing something so Holy. Your description of Hell was very vague; maybe you left out the details because you know you are headed that way and you don't want to think about it. Hell is nothing to joke about, and it's sad that you care nothing about your soul. I just pray that your lack of faith doesn't affect others who visit this board. What if someone turns away from Christ because they saw your post? The blood will be on your hands. Keep your beliefs to yourself; don't be the reason that someone else goes to Hell just because you feel like ranting. God Loves ALL and I believe He can save everyone even non-believers and those who run his name down on this boards.

The bible was written from tales handed down verbally from generation to generation. Subtleties don't survive well in what is basically a huge game of "Telephone".

No, that talking animal stuff is really deep just like the book Dr.Dolittle. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Dr. Dolittle changed my life.Although now I find my golden retriever a bit verbose after I mastered the language of Dog.

If the bible was a piece of modern-day writing (and it's not literature by a long shot), it would be classified as a horrendously edited pot-boiler with no real plot, a central character who's basically a dead guy, too many duplicitious kings, too many contradictory values, too many dead-end subplots, too much senseless slaughter, too much sex for the sake of sex, and too many contributing writers.

It would have to be self-published.
