I saw a few comments on here about how dollor general employees are too lazy to clean the stores, I work at one and we are not lazy, I am a cashier and am expected to take care of customers at the register, stock shelves, sweep, mop, straighten up messes that customers leave, etc... we are not allowed to stay at the register if no customers are there, we have to be moving at all times, so that means if we ring someone out, and then go to the back of the store to straighten shelves and someone comes to the register 1 minute later we have to run back up again to ring them out, and this happens maybe 40-50 times per shift, plus we have to sweep and mop the whole store at closing, so we are not by any means lazy.

People condemn and ridicule what they do not understand. Believe me, i know. i got the same charming treatment as a McDonald's employee. Unless someone stands in your shoes and does your job, they cannot understand the work you do, the grumpy people you must wait on, nor the sometimes nasty managers you have to work for. Best wishes...and kudos for working hard at what you do! We need more people like you in the world! ;)

Could be the " nuevo riche" are embarrassed by shopping at a store they feel is " beneath them". I hear this alot when cracks are made about Walmart, Target or any discount place.
They go there for the pricing deals but feel compelled to complain about it as though they are a discriminating buyer of fine imported goods.
Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope ( from Abercrombie and Fitch)
Could be those stores are so busy, with minimum staff that they don't have time to watch the registers and clean.Ours has 1 employee. I personally like a place that gives me a good price. But then again, I am tight enough to sit on a lump of coal and turn it into a diamond.

The reason it is considered ripping off the customer is because you are not giving the customer back all of their money. What happens when the customer gets in their car or arrive at home and then realize that you cheated them? Most customers will shrug it off and just say well she must have been busy and it was an honest mistake. But then there are customers that take it personal and won't come back. The plan DG has in place is one that I believe is a good one. Even though you are wrote up for the offense and have only a certain amount of write-ups before termination, it teaches you to be more careful with your money which in turn helps DG give out amazing customer service. My advice is to be more careful with your money. Always and I mean ALWAYS count the money back in each customers hand. Don't worry, the write-up that you received falls off in one years time from the date it occurred.

Perhaps its just all where people live. Perhaps the DG store you work at is nice and clean. But the one where i live, it is over crowded with items and its clean...but could be better...with less items blocking your way around. Its just too small of a building for the store really.
And i'm also a cashier so i get what you mean when you say that you must be doing something at all times. Where i work, we have to be doing something also.

I think the people who say that have probably never worked a day in their lives.
I don't shop at the dollar store, but I know how well Dollar is doing in the market. You guys have to be doing something right! Hope you get company stock as part of your pay.

I have missed those comments and I peronally would never make them. I shop often at Dollar General and I see the way you have to hustle. Lazy is not a word I would use to describe their employees. People make mean comments to make themselves feel better about themselves without taking into consideration the people they are directing them at. Do not let small minds ruin your day!
Peace be with you.

I know what you mean. I worked at Wal-Mart when my husband and I got married and my mother in law had the nerve to tell me once that she was embarrassed to tell her friends that her daughter in law worked for Wal-Mart. Two years later when I left that job, she called me to tell me she was glad I left there because she hated the thought of a family member working for a place like that. Its not like I was cleaning the toilets with my toothbrush or anything. I worked as a Pharmacy Tech. Oddly, for some reason that bothered her, but it didnt bother her that her own daughter was a clerk at Albertsons. Funny.

the people complaining are probebly being supported by the system or daddy and have never had to hold down a real job. I respect anyone who works for a living, regardless of the occupation.

I don't condemn DG employees.
Maybe the judgemental lot are simply people who dislike themselves so much they need to find somebody the can trash - and think to themselves "at least I'm nat as bad as THEY are."

Perhaps you should speak for yourself (and your store ) only. Since you work so hard I expect your store is tidy and a wonder to behold. Some aren't. I suppose those people were referring to the lazy ones and not you.
