You will find speckled trout mostly on the shallow grass flats, 3ft - 6ft, of the Intracoastal Waterway, around areas with patchy grass in Tampa Bay, and around drop offs and swash channels through out the area. The easiest way to catch them is to put a live shrimp under a popping cork and let it drift with the tide. A 6 1/2ft rod with a spinning reel loaded with 8lb - 12lb test line and a #6 - #8 hook will give you years of great fishing. One of my favorite spots is the north side of the Dunedin Causeway just past the first bridge. Stop by the Dunedin Fishing Center and they will be happy to make sure you have what you need for a great day of fishing. If you are around St. Petersburg, check with Mastry's Bait & Tackle. They will also be happy to make sure you have everything you need for a great day of fishing. Also check out my web site, http://flafin.blogspot.com. Larry Mastry gave me some great tips on places to go trout fishing just this afternoon.

*bows out of this one*

Handlining shrimp works pretty good, too, sometimes, and that first unexpected 20 inch trout that starts to swim off with that thing......

Over here on the east coast, they'll hit spoons and just about anything else, as well... but shrimp... yeah... all you need other than that is a grassbed and a dropoff.
