Ok, I have these white bumps in my inner cheeks of my mouth and side of my tongue but I don't know what it is and had it for like 3 yrs.. What could it be? It's not going away and the doctor that I went to didn't really know about it.

What type of doctor did you visit-- Medical or Dental?
If the this doctor was unable to identify it---Did he/she take a biopsy of it for lab testing--- to see if it is cancerous?
If he/she did not do this for you---go and get a 2nd opinion.
The concern is that it has been in your mouth for so long & if it were cancerous this would not work in your favor to just continue to allow time to pass by without doing anything about this--- and not all doctors are trained in the oral cancer area; so just because the 1st doc was unable to identify the whitish bumps on your check and tounge does not mean that it's okay to ignore these bumps.
Hey, less than 4% of all cancers begin in the mouth and if detected early can be preventable 100% (in it's early detection stage). PLEASE DO NOT WAIT-- get a 2nd doctor to check it for you.
Lab testing is not usually very costly---$75--$100ish--in our area Northern California---and that is without insurance. If you have medical insurance your co-insurance portion should be possibly even less.
Your health and safety is worth the investment of a 2nd opinion.
NOW---you did not mention PAIN--so I cannot be sure that it is canker sores--open bumps with a whitish border that swell slightly and can be caused by a variation of things such as stress to your immune system, sometimes citrus fruits trigger it, or a viral reaction-- (meaning it could be a virus that can trigger these sores in your mouth) and of course the other possibility---Herpes simplex I or simplex II---a sexually transmitted disease.
Hope that you will in any case-- have it looked after by starting over with a different doctor that can better diagnosis this for your best health.
Take good care.--Sincerely, Tina
P.S. The links below can help you understand more about oral cancer.
Warning, the 2nd link is pretty graphic and may not be comfortable for some viewers---

As far as I know, they're like canker sores. I get them a lot too. I think that if you rinse with a mouthwash like Listerine, it will help. Or just plain brush better. I think that they're quite common. Go to a dentist again. They should know what they are, or maybe go to your primary care physician.

sounds like canker sores i used to get those all the time when i was a kid. try rinsing with luke warm salt water 3 times a day until they are healed up and gone. if that doesnt help, go to an orthodontic specialist.

You might have something called Thrush. which is a yeast infection. There is medicine to treat it, it is a prescription. People taking antibiotic often get thrush. Not to scare you but it is also a sign of HIV infection. Your boyfriend may have a yeast infection, if you are engaging in oral sex. and you are simple reinfecting one another.
