I went to Catholic school and I never got hit with a ruler and I never saw anyone get hit with a ruler either in all the years I was there. I'm sure some probably did, but certainly not every nun was like that.

I got whacked a couple times at Catholic school, but mostly by teachers who weren't nuns. The nuns were, on the whole, good teachers. They were well-educated, and some of them had more interesting classes than the lay teachers. A few of them did know a thing or two about instilling religious guilt into kids, though. If I disappointed a nun, I ended up feeling like I'd disappointed the entire heavenly host.

I went to a Catholic Scholl and I never once saw a Nun use any form of puishment but I was in a public School and they used the ruler, feather duster, anything they could lay their hands on, thats why my parents put my brother, Sister and I into a Catholic School

I think this is more legend than fact.

I spent 8 years in Catholic schools and I never saw a nun hit anyone with anything.

With love in Christ.

Not in my school! Our prinicpal, who was a nun, hit us with an inch thick paddle. Nuns got away with abuse for so many years, because it used to be that you didn't DARE go home and tell your parents that a nun disciplined you, or you'd most likely get it again. Because they are nuns, everyone felt they MUST HAVE had a good reason for smacking us. I was belted because I just asked too many questions that they couldn't answer and I couldn't accept that I was just to BELIEVE blindly : )

The Catholic Church Priests and Nuns leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. It is more like "Do as I say and not as I do". Pops

It is called corporal punishment and it was allowed in schools: public schools,
private schools,
parochial schools
If you never got hit you were considered a teachers pet

I went to a public school. The principal in grammar school had a paddle called "Old Betsy."
It had a hole drilled in it. I understand when he whacked you with it, you got a blister where the hole was.

Two words best explain this: SEXUAL TENSION. Nuns, "married" to Christ--had to REMAIN virgins!!! Meaning their lives (as well as those of Priests....purportedly) had to be run WITHOUT SEX......EVER!!!!

With that kind of overbearing (and I think, NON-REALISTIC) commitment, do you think nuns were friendly morning type people?????
