They don't and they get defensive when you point out the many errors and contradictions found in the bible. Notice the denial and rationalization. The Bible says a thing is true, therefore there is no need to question or think for yourself.
The heavens and the earth were created in 6 days, therefore scientific knowledge is wrong.
Typical response:
The bible is true because it says it is.

The Bible contains all the information needed for salvation, if one does what it says in certain places, particularly the "red lettered" words. But that doesn't mean a lot of old stories and letters from various people didn't show up to.

I worship God, not the Bible.

I apply certain verses to my life and they work. The principles and statements in the Bible work for me and that's how I know it is true. Any quite a number of the prophecies in the Bible have come true, any person that makes a study of fulfilled prophecy in the Bible will see that the Bible was divinly inspired.

I don't know that it's truth. I can't. How can I?
I have faith. I have experienced God work in my life in many ways. I have seen him perform miracles in myself and in other people I know.
I have 'felt & heard' God.

Also - if it's not true, I have lived a great and full life, filled with grace, love, compassion & understanding. Even if it is false, it has been totally worth the ride!!

Because the bible that is written by men, says it is divinely inspired. Ask muslims the same question of the quran. They will tell you the same thing. That's why they fight. Same with the jewish people. Theirs is right and sent from God too. They have to fight and condemn other faiths, to prove God loves them more and all the others are wrong and going to hell. Isn't it cool? Only "one" faith is right. Everyone else goes to hell. Because each has books sent to us from God. And people in these faiths can't get past this. Because of these books written by men.
