there is still a baby float out there for that weight and age. I am not sure of the name of it try toys r us. We used one last year when my daughter was 22-26 months. You can always get one of those suits with the floaties built into it too.

Swim diapers (lil swimmers) Sunscreen sippy with WATER sunglasses sun hat water shoes hooded towel snack, light hooded robe or cover-up a floatie toy umbrella or shade tent list of emergency numbers (other parent, drs, another family member, your name and daughters, etc... just in case) camera My daughter was terrified in pool at 6 months, 9 months and 12 months. But she loved splashing in sprinklers. I have been taking my daughter to local splash park since she was about 16 months. It took a bit before she liked it. Just watch how much time you spend in sun and water. She will dehydrate very quickly. Burn VERY quickly too. Most pools require swim diapers. Most YMCAs offer Mommy & Baby water intro classes which may be best for first experience so you dont spend too much to find out she hates the pool. I still think the little backyard infatable or hard plastic wading pools are great options for first times. Good luck!

Swim lessons are essential. Push him around in the pool while he floats on his own. That could be the first step in his learning to swim, but get him professional lessons right away. He's a natural to learn at that age.
We live in an area with lots of backyard pools, and there are monthly drownings of toddlers who get to the pool one way or another. Your child's best protection in case he ever slips out of your sight is knowing how to keep himself on top of the water until help arrives.

There are several good things for kids this age. I know you already know this, but the mother in me is making me say it: Don't take your eyes off your baby. Have you considered swimming lessons for your baby? Call the YMCA they usually have infant and mother, and toddler and mother swim classes. They are great.

my son is 17 months and we go to swom class at the ymca i bought him a body suit that has the flotation devices stitched inside of it i bought mine at walmart. it has sleeves and comes down to almost his knees. it will be good for the summer at the beach to cause it keeps more of his body covered from the sun. they all come in bright colours and work very well

An adult who can swim, staying right by the pool, and paying attention at all times.
There are swimming lessons for toddlers. Check your local YM/YWCA.

I bought my daughter the smallest life vest and it worked but not very well. I would recommend getting one of those suits from wal-mart with the built in life vest.

Lifejacket. They make them small enough to fit him and most public pools have them. Yup, a lifejacket and a mommy!

A life vest should work best and be the safest. You can get a coast guard approved one just about anywhere for his weight.
