It is a bright color that can be seen. There is a history of fire trucks being red and if you see one, then you immediately recognize it as a fire truck. good luck

it makes them more visible to on coming traffic. people think that yellow is also a good color because it is also a high visibility color o think that it blends in to the daylight to well.

Actually most trucks are black, unless your talking about the commercial trucks that haul containers, in that case it would be becasue they are work vehicles and they probably dont care how it looks and are more worried about being seen and not involved in an accident.
