Go to the Medic Alert website.
Your are missing the point: in an emergency you want your life saved.
I have a silver necklace with a medalion. I also keep their card in my wallet.
Once you register, it is your responsibility to keep your medications and doctor contact numbers up-to-date.
I will caution you that this is not a perfect system. The three times I have had emergencies, I could not convince the doctors and nurses to contact the phone number.
Try to make sure you always have an advocate -- parent, best friend, attorney -- who you can contact ASAP to make sure your medical needs are completely taken care of.

I bet you could get some really cool stone or hematite beads at the craft store and make one. I make jewelry all the time and there isn't a whole lot to it. I've made some nice guy necklaces before, and a pretty cool bracelet too. Heck, if you found out you liked doing it or that you are good at it, you could make a couple different ones to change it up.

You can buy them at the drugstore or walmart - they're in the pharmacy aisle. Unfortunately, they only sell certain ones there. I would suggest you buy a blank one, and take it to be engraved. it'll cost a small fee, and you can have it done at most jewelers, or stores like Things Remembered. It's still going to cost, but it won't be 300$.

Have you thought of wearing a dog tag type necklace with your medical info on it. There are sites that sell dog tags that will put just about anything on them. Type "dog tags" into your search engine and have a look.

I found a decent site:
http://www.medicassist.com/MedicalAssistIDMens.asp
Prices range from 14.95-89.00 and include necklaces, bracelets and watches.
Good luck.
You might also check with a local medical supply store or pharmacy.
