Hi, Im a 19 year old guy. I lost 50 lbs over the course of one year by doing a diet alone and now weigh 130 (heigh is 5'8). I've been lifting weights and stuff, is surgery the only remedy?? I heard if you're young, your skin can still bounce back.
please recommend anything that might work.

Listen to me! Do not have surgery yet, you are very young, and 50 lbs is not a lot of weight! Congrats and all, it IS a lot to lose, but it is not so much that you skin cannot recover. It will take a bit of time, but don't jump into surgery at 19! I'm not one of those "don't have surgery" people either. I have implants and have had other stuff done, I'm just letting you know unless your skin is in very poor condition (severe malnutrition, etc) at 19, 50 lbs of loss will tighten up again, just eat well, drink lots of water, moisturize....be good to it. Most important for the tightening is do some resistance training, you will be shocked, and be sure NOT TO YOYO with your weight, maintain your fitness. It just takes a bit to bouce back, hard to say but you should notice change every 6 months or so if you are maintaining (it will take longer if you are still losing obviously) If you were much older (I'm talking thirties) and you had a lot of loose skin, or lost much more weight, then yes, at that point, unless you made up the missing fat with a huge amount of muscle, surgery is then your only option. This type of surgery is dangerous and leaves huge scars. Weight training will tone you up faster, and if you can be diligent with cardio, resistance training and a good diet for a while, at your age you could still get a nice looking 6 pack, so don't go and get yourself cut into, you'll recover fully if you want it. good luck and congrats!

If youve had such drastic weight loss as that, no exercising in the world will remove the excessive skin. This can only be done via surgery. No, the skin will not bounce back. at any age, only if a couple of pounds has been shed and a strict exercise/healthy eating regime is followed. Sorry, no easy solution here. But congratulations on achieveing such a difficult task. Its gonna make you feel good physiallly as well, not to mention the lack of strain on your cardiovascular system now! Go make an appt with a plastic surgeon now to get info on the procedure.

Way to go on the weight loss!! 50 pounds is a lot of weight and you deserve credit for sticking to your diet for a year!! Good for you!!

Your age is a factor because youthful skin is generally better at "snapping back", but your skin type and genetics matter, too. If you are a paler person you have less natural "elastic" in your skin than darker skinned people.

Since you lost 50 pounds and have loose skin, I would consider seeing a plastic surgeon. You can schedule a consultation and see what they have to say. If there is a non-surgical way to help, the plastic surgeon will know and if the options are by presciption only then they can write one for you.

Exercising while you lose weight is NOT a guaranteed way to avoid loose skin, so please disregard those comments. If there were a way to not have loose skin just by exercising during weight loss, nobody would need to have excess skin removed and the procedure would not exist.

Your best bet is to schedule an appointment with a plastic surgeon, but I would also ask if they perform Thermage at their office. It's a laser treatment that regenerates collagen and makes loose skin tighten up. You might benefit from that so I'd at least ask about it.

There is financing available with most plastic surgeons, so don't think you have to be rich & famous to afford it. It's not a cash only thing, is what I mean. Best of luck to you.

You can find a plastic surgeon by entering your city/state here: http://www.plasticsurgeonslocator.com/

50 lbs is a lot of weight to lose. Congratulations! Weights are good, but do light weights. You want to tone, not bulge, because soon you'll have stretch from that if you don't make time for it as often. Running and jumping jacks are also very good and easy exercises for all over toning. Make sure you do a lot of stretching because that increases your muscle performance by at least 30%. I also suggest Avon's Anew Clinical Lift and Tuck. Check out the link below to find out more details. Best part: it's very affordable AND comes with a 100% guarantee. Beats surgery. Best wishes!

Give yourself time. Skin doesn't snap back like a rubber band!
Keep up the weights and start toning exercises. Don't rush into plastic surgery, you're still growing.

You can always join a local Y or a gym, too. That's healthier than going under the knife.

i don't think loose skin should be a problem for u since u only lost 50lb and u're only 19...i lost abt 85lb over a course of 2-3 years, and reached my ideal weight at age 18...i did initially look kinda flabby...but over the years, my skin firmed up on it's own (I'm 22 now)...see, the human skin is extremely elastic, but it may take time for it to 'shrink' back...I also continued with my exercises and started doing sit-ups...ppl can't tell that i was once 200lb and when i do tell them they have trouble believing me!

i do have some stretchmarks though and they are silvery white...but don't worry...your skin will firm up on its own...just continue with your weight lifting (and drink lotsa water)...u may also choose to take zinc supplements (i take this along with vitamin C, helps the skin heal quicker i guess...u can buy it from any drugstore) while waiting for your skin to firm up! ur body will look so buff by the next 1 or 2 years, ppl won't be able to tell that u were once fat!

This sounds like something I would only see the doctor about. I mean, it sounds like you've gone to a lot of effort to lose the extra kilos and all on your own, that's great! It sounds like you done almost everything u can on u're own and now u might need help from a professional. Loose skin is something only a professional would know about. Up u go!

That happens alot for people when they loose alot of weight. Surgery may be your only solution. Speak to some doctors or offices and find out if their are alternatives but if not surgery would be your best bet.
