Anyone who wants to examine the answers to my latest series of questions will see how many times people said "oh, Jesus was telling that man what to do, he didn't tell me personally to do the same."

Checking the Gospels, I see Jesus was -always- talking to someone else. Not once does he talk to -me- personally.

And since Christians feel entitled to ignore instructions from Jesus, it would seem we can all ignore Jesus and still call ourselves good "Christians" who are bound for heaven.

Bottom line: it seems "Christianity" can mean whatever we want it to mean. Even Atheists can call themselves "christian" because, after all, Jesus didn't tell them -personally- to worship God.

Like I said, read the answers to my latest series of questions to see how easy it is for christians to cherry-pick the bible for verses they like, and ignore the rest.

Well, at least that's the way it's practiced. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad these crazies aren't running around stoning people, as Jesus commanded (supposedly, he's god, and god is supposed to be unchanging). I just wish they would look at their religion as critically and vigorously as they look at those of others.

I just realized I'm wrong. It isn't that they think critically about other religions, THEY JUST DON'T THINK about their religion or ANY others. That explains why they don't recognize contradictions when they see them. They just don't think!

Yes. Consider how many Christians don't go around killing people, even though the Bible repeatedly instructs them to do so. Of course, most Christians probably don't know that, since they haven't read the entire Bible.

I think you miss a deeper issue.

It is one thing to pick and choose quotes allegedly from Jesus (the most common used by fanatical christians being "I am the way...no one comes to the father except through me..."

It is another thing entirely to find that the vast majority of quotes by christians are not in fact Jesus, but either people interpreting jesus such as Paul of Tarsus, or Old Testament quotes.

So I think the question you should be asking is why are people who supposedly follow the teachings of Jesus place such a low priority in quoting his words and such a high priority in quoting everybody else? What is going on here?

It is, and picking is essential, as the bible has dozens of internal contradictions as well as hundreds of factual errors. You cannot have a consistent theology without doing some selection.

You can not just pick out verses in the bible to fit what you like and dont like . The end of revelations states " I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of the book if anyone adds to them God will add to him the plagues described in this book and if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city which are described in this book" revelations 22:18-19

Guidelines are put along roadways to help people stay on the road.
The bible serves a similar function. Been there, done that seems to be appropriate.
However, what our maker thinks about what we do, is pertinent. Want some help?

It's probably best to call the whole thing rotten and throw it in the compost pile, don't you think?
