They think their rituals and prayers and popes and priests and big glass stained windows and statues and gold crosses and rosaries and nuns and convents and monks (I could go on but I'm sure you get the point) somehow "elevate" them. I come from a small town where there are MANY Catholic Churches, and I happen to have grandparents that helped found one of the biggest ones in my town, therefore have some family members who claim to be Catholic, and let me tell you, they are some of the biggest hypocrites I'll ever meet. My one Aunt doesn't EVER even step into the "Church" and probably hasn't for 30 years, but boy you ask her what religion she is and right away she proclaims, "I'm a Catholic", and I really believe she thinks this somehow IMPRESSES people!!! It's only beause she was born into it, and her Father was such an a**hole, but I think he literally beat her into believing she always has to remain one. I always see the Catholics on here get all offended when a person asks them if they are really Christians? I'd like to ask them, would they be willing to drop the name CATHOLIC, and just go by the name CHRISTIAN? Oh but no, that would go against THEIR tradition. Which by the way, Jesus had something to say about in Mark7:6 "He said to them, "Isaiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me, It is in vain they keep worshipping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men. Letting go the commandment of God, you hold fast the tradition of men". vs 13 "and thus you make the word of God INVALID by your tradition which you handed down. And many things similar to this you do".

Catholics benefit from 2000 years worth of the best theology, scholarship, and truth that the world has ever known, all based on the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, and all consistently and clearly linked together in a way the cannot be found in any other faith ... Christian or non-Christian.

Catholics have always had free and complete access to all God's revealed truth, plus the real presence of Jesus himself, along with the abundant grace and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, who has been the constant advocate of the Catholic Church, from day one.

Considering all these unique gifts and benefits, if a Catholic isn't WAY, WAY better off than everyone else, then he is in big, big trouble!

This Catholic doesn't. I have many failings, and am constantly seeking ways to remedy them. To suggest that I'm better than others would be arrogant, and would furthermore contradict the teachings of Christ on humility. Penance and Reconciliation are part of Catholic teachings specifically because we are all sinners. Self-sacrifice and humble acknowledgment of shortcomings are an important part of life as a Catholic. No one person is better than another.

I have no clue. I certainly know that I DON'T. And I don't teach the people in the pews to think that way, either.

According to Jesus' parable: Our model should be the Publican who stood afar off, who would not even raise his eyes...and simply prayed "Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner".

This is the basis for the "Jesus Prayer" - the single most powerful prayer in all of Orthodox Christianity.

Because we are in the One True Church. However, "All the Church's children should remember that their exalted status is to be attributed not to their own merits but to the special grace of Christ. If they fail moreover to respond to that grace in thought, word and deed, not only shall they not be saved but they will be the more severely judged." (Lumen Gentium 14)

Well, that's really amazing that you've met most Catholics in the world, isn't that about 1 billion? Maybe you've only run into Catholics that are like that, but it isn't the case in my experience.

i don't believe i am better than anyone but i do feel the catholic church has the fullness of truth that can't be found anywhere else. i base this decision on jesus giving us the catholic church, the catholic church giving us the bible, the bible being a catholic book and thanks to the catholic church todays generations even have a bible. i see more fundamentalists accusing the catholic church and thinking they are better even regarding things they don't understand properly.
