Potassium and magnesium are natural muscle relaxers. When the muscles are relaxed, they don't cramp, and there will be no pain. Also, if you bruise or tear or strain a muscle, that will cause pain, and the magnesium and potassium will help your body make the necessary repairs in addition to providing relaxing relief.

In a nutshell, Potassium is (sort of) the "opposite" of sodium (as far as your muscles are concerned). So you need the sodium to tighten the muscle, and then it's the potassium that lets the muscle re-relax. (and get ready to tense up again).
Incidentally, though I don't know where you are, most Americans get about 10% of the recommended daily potassium!

it relieves muscle cramps and twitches, not pain. Potassium is a necessary electrolyte for muscle excitability and contraction. That also includes the most important muscle.. the heart <3
