I don't know if we are thinking of the same thing, but I use a "Green Dot" card, which you can get at stores like Wal-Mart, CVS, and Eckard's. It is a debit card NOT attached to a bank account. You can use it anywhere a Visa can be used (ATM, store cash registers, online, etc.) You just go to one of the stores that have the cards and put more money on it whenever you want. (Or you can have you paycheck direct deposited on it.) There's no credit check and you don't need a bank account. (Once you open the card account, you have to call in and give them your information, ie full name, address, SS#, etc. Took about 10 minutes then I was ready to go. You get a fully functional temp card right away, then a permanent card in the mail.) You can then check your balance online or on the phone.
The same company offers a card kind of like that, except you buy a card pre-loaded with a certain amount and once that's gone you throw it away. I don't think you have to call in or give them your info for this one. I think it works more like a phone minutes card. I haven't tried that, but if it works as well as the "Green Dot" Visa that I have, it's great, too.

Haven't tried a "one time use" credit card - but have bought a credit card that is reloadable...
Those work just like a normal credit card - you simply Western Union money to the credit card company and they immediately make it available on your card.

That sure does notmake any sense to me but then people do anything when it comes to credit. I have no credit card of any kinds. I do have one debit card and it is from my account.
Have no debts to pay at all. Not even the house as it was bought with cash on the line.
