Basically white witches are good and black witches are bad. It's as easy as that. A White witch is usually refered to as someone who does no harm in practising their craft and onlly follows a good path. Sometimes white witches cast spells for good purposes( dependant on whether you believe in spells of course). They sometimes make medicines and cures with herbs and work for the good of anyone who contacts them. they often , I am told, bekieve in the powers of nature and that their is a spirit in everything, plants, trees, animals, humans - though of course you don't have to be a white witch to think this. Black witches are said to worship 'darker' things and are equated with the devil and evil doings. Black witches should be avoided at all costs because even if you don't believe in black witchcraft they can do harm to people and animals in the belief that they are gaing power for usually their own self advancement. There are probably more people follow both of these ways than we think.
