I heard there was a controversy on the existence of unicorns in the Middle Ages because the Bible mentioned it (I don't know where). It finally turned out to be an error of translation.

The Bible says that hearing the harp is healing (king David played this instrument for king Saul) and that laying close to masses of water is also good for health.

What do you think (on all the things exposed and the main question)??

Some many contradictions and the fact that man wrote it means that there are many errors in the bible.

no, not everything in the bible is truth, first you must know and remember, the holy bible we know today, differs greatly from the original texts, these texts have been changed through translation, and to benifit certain rulers throughout history.

also, not that I am trying to refute the bible, but the writings of these ancient texts were written by humans much more primitive than we are today, alot of what was recorded in those times CAN be a semi-accurate historical record, but because it was written by a culture much more primitive than our own, we have to accept the fact that the primitive mind could only write or record events the way his primitive mind perceived it.

All throughout the history of Humankind, the primitive man would always turn events and things he did not understand into the work or words of some deity or another.

why should the holy Bible be the gospel truth? why not the holy books of any other culture besides christianity? Mankind does this for some unknown reason, all cultures develop some religious belief, and at some point discard them for another.

religion is one of the biggest hoaxes the planet earth has ever known. the human race is on the brink of its next major step in evolution, but I believe that before the Human race can finish this evolutionary step, we must discard our childish beliefs in petty gods.

any rational mind can weigh the facts, and see the truth.
the problem is there arent enough rational minds for this to happen, eventually the gene that allows us to believe in some invisible deity, will be bred out of the human DNA. and then we will see our true destiny as a race.

It's impossible for the Bible to be completely infallibly true. For one thing, there are nearly 400 contradictions in the Bible, and both parts of a contradiction can't both be true.

There's also the stuff that's just plain ridiculous, like the sun stopping in the sky. Not only is that not mentioned anywhere outside the Bible, but even the greatest astronomers of the time were somehow completely unaware of such an unmistakable, incredible event? So what's more likely, that, or that it was just made up? I think you can figure out the answer.

I believe the Bible to be 100% unfallibly true in every principle and historical detail. Recall that God is perfect and holy, and He had the information recorded for us to read. If we cannot have faith in God's word, then what is there to have faith in--(don't try to answer that, the answer is nothing).

I'm not sure about the specific things you mentioned. Can you include some scriptures to point to those instances?

I did wonder about unicorns as a kid but (this is just opinion) it would seem like unicorns are a relatively recent imagined creature (as in not thousands of years old). I'm not sure how they got unicorns for the Hebrew word, but newer translations do have something like wild oxen instead.

Edit: upon reading answers, I add:

1. Man did not write the Bible, God created man and created everything in his head and even as I write this I know that the stuff I myself want to say I can't phrase right or remember and that only the stuff God wants me to say is coming out,

2. People can call just about anything in the Bible a contradiction, and a whole load of them are quite comical. I've studied some of them-- taking verses out of context, taking implications, and making up meanings for verses doesn't create sound contradictions. Yes, the Bible's 100% correct.

Deuteronomy 33:17 (King James Version)
17His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

Numbers 23:22 (King James Version)
22God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Psalm 22:21 (King James Version)
21Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

Isaiah 34:7 (King James Version)
7And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

The bible is not a scientific book. It is the inspired and revealed word of God containing the CHIEF truths necessary for the salvation of man.
You won't find instructions to make a souffle in there.

Yes, the Bible is the infallible inspired word of God. No, the translations that are not directly from the original text are not correct, such as trying to say that there were unicorns or that the fish or whale in Jonah's tale was a dinosaur.

The Bible contains Truth, but it isn't meant to all be read literally. It was written over hundreds of years and is a collection of writings. It is meant to speak to faith, not science or history. If your faith depends on all of the Bible being historically/scientifically accurate, then your faith is built on the wrong thing.

The bible is as true and valid as any other comic book. I, personally, prefer Spider Man
