You did the right thing already, asking someone what to do, rather than keeping it inside. But now, it's time to take the next step. Rather than talking to people who probably have little experience, go to a conselour. Therapist, psychaitrists, ect., can really help in serious situations such as this.

Right now, you can ask yourself, when do first realize you were losing intrest in things you liked to do? Did anything big happen during that time? Address such, if anything does come to mind. Be optomistic - that will almost always help. In addition, when you feel like doing nothing, drag yourself away from your bed or couch, and go outside. Take a hike, a run, bike, anything. Have you ever heard of runners' high? Many therapists reccommend more exercise because when you exercise, more adrenaline often causes you to grow more cheerful and find more enjoyment in what you do. In addition, while you exercise, you can think with a generally more cheerful mind, "why do I feel this way?"

Finally, try something new. You may have simply gotten bored of your old activities. Try something light-hearted and cheerful.

It sounds like you are describing "anhedonia." Anhedonia is a symptom of depressive disorders including Clinical Depression and Dysthymic Disorder.

Keep in mind you have to have other symptoms to be diagnosed. Wikipedia has all these disorders as classified by the DSM-IVTR, which is like the cookbook bible of the psychology field.

Most importantly, a diagnosis is just a diagnosis. It can't possibly define all of the reasons that you have lost pleasure in activities that normally provide you with pleasure or understand the emptiness.

I think what you will continue to hear is exercise, good sleeping patterns, and good diet. Partner that with some therapy if you are interested in finding the source of your loss of pleasure, as well as looking for ways to prevent yourself from going down this road again. If the healthy lifestyle and the therapy doesn't work, then you can also add on medication to boost your mood and stabilize seretonin levels. Antidepressants like Lexapro and Wellbutrin may help with the chemical part.

When I start feeling down, I take a look at my social supports too.

First of all, consult a counselor, or a social worker. They can help you with the stress that comes with that.

Then, look in the papers, find local events, and go to a different one each week. Maybe you'll find something you care about, and learn from it. Be open to new things.

Don't shut yourself in, don't mope. That will only harm you.

it sounds like you are experiencing signs of depression (anhedonia and avolition). I have experienced these symptoms fequently myself. I would talk to your doctor about an antidepressant and see about individual or group therapy. I know it's hard to explain this experience and usually people do not quite understand unless they've had the misfortune of experiencing these things themselves. Good Luck. This sounds like depression. You may have something that drains your energy, look for toxic people or habits, and find a way to rid yourself of them, restructure and apply yourself to new areas of interest, your joy should then return.

That is a very dominate sign that you may be depressed. I suggest you talk to someone about it. There are lots of meds out there that may help you.

Honestly and no sarcasm intended whatsoever, I consult with my psychiatrist about re-evaluating my medication regimen.
