a plastic lighter can be used if you grab the bottle firmly by the neck and put the end of the lighter between your hand and the cap. push down on the other end of the lighter and you can pry it open. the one piece plastic lighters work better then Bics or others that have a bottom piece that is inserted into a body piece, because the plastic is thicker on the one piece lighters.
the edge idea also works, but don't do it on anything that you don't want little ridged lines stamped into. picnic tables, deck railings and the like are great for it though.

Press the cap against the counter, and slam down with the palm of your hand.
Or grab a pair of scissors and put the cap in between them and then twist them with the handles kinda downwards trying to lift open the teeth of the cap, you might need to lift more than one of the teeth on the cap before you can lift the cap off.

The can opener in your house ought to have a bottle opener as part of it.

If you're brave, you can use your teeth. Be careful not to chip them though.
The answer above is really risky. Don't smack down hard. That can break the bottle.
If you find a good hard steady square edge though, you can pull down hard enough and slowly enough not to spill and that will work too.

Use the door jam. You know the sqare hole where the latch goes. You wont lose half of your beer like smacking it on the counter top.

Hold the bottle firmly, place the cap against a square-edged surface, and smack down hard.
