Odd. Most of my friends read the Bible.

I was just a kid when that movie came out and my mom would not let me see the movie. However, a friend gave me the book to read. It freaked me out so bad that I started having headaches. We(my friend and I) took the book out in the back yard and tried to burn it and the darned thing would not burn! We tore it to shreds and poured gasoline on it and then it finally was able to burn it! I was relieved! True story! I will always remember this and I have no desire to see the movie.......ever!
Yes, I became very interested in reading the Bible after that!

No, but I am not Catholic. Also, I have a psych degree so I doubt stories such as those. Once, I met a man who seriously believed a woman (with schizophrenia) had a demonic possession. He believes the mother had a right to shot and keel her daughter since the 'demons' wouldn't leave her. I enjoy the movie and have read the book, but it did not spur me to read the Bible. I read the Bible for my own reasons.

I first saw it in 1976 at age 15. At that time I was heavily into witchcraft and esoteric knowledge (which later turned out to be all BS), so it didn't really cause much of a stir in me. However, the town I grew up in had some unstable elements in it that took the movie too far. I'm talking about kids who began using LSD and other psychotropic drugs to "peer into" the realm of the unseen, and instead wound-up checking into drug-detox . The only thing that struck me peculiar was a song by Stevie Wonder called "Superstition" in which he says "when you believe in things you don't understand, and you suffer..." because that's exactly what was happening in our town; young people who were self-destructing and in almost every case it had something to do with that movie. I guess Stevie was right. When you stare into the abyss, it stares back into you. Somehow.

No, it didn't, but it was the first time I ever had to walk out of a movie because it was literally making me feel ill. Which just goes to show the way that de-sensitisation works, I saw the movie again a couple of years ago as a cable re-run, and it really didn't seem so extreme.

My understanding of so-called 'demonic' possession has long since surpassed such theatricals. It was, and still is, used just to 'thrill' us and earn box-office and dvd dollars/euros/pounds/zlotys etc etc etc.

I was just a kid at the time, so there was a part of me that almost believed it. I wanted to check out the real story behind possessions and exorcism (although there was no internet then and nothing in the library)

funny- I never thought to go to the bible.

I was raised Catholic, we just accepted ideas like that as a matter or course, it was part of church teaching. I guess my answer is no, I never went to purposely check it out in the scripture, it was just a part of the culture I was in at the time.... There are several scriptures pertaining to the casting out of demons though....

Honest answer. No. I fall asleep to the movie. Seriously. It is one of my favorite horror movies. I do not feel inclined to consult the scriptures after watching (or any other time for that matter). It is a good movie, kick back and enjoy!

No. Honestly, it was scary when I was a kid (I'm in my 20s, so I've only seen the film on television or as a rental) but now it's just kinda funny.

It scared the crapola out of my college roommate, though (she saw it for the first time our freshman year) and she said the rosary for like three hours afterward.

There is no info in the Bible on exorcism. You have to go to the books held by the Church. I for one never believed in Evil. So it was not real to me.

Nope. I love the movie ... it's one of my all time favorite ones. After seeing the movie though it encouraged me to read the novel and then to read the sequel. Great novels!!!!
