The states would be more willing to exert their rights against the federal government... that's for sure.... One of the factors which enabled the south to consider secession was the fact that state militias constituted such a large portion of the national armed forces at the time...

Just looking at this logistically it doesn't make sense. Each state would have a military, that would probably mean no common weapon, plus some states would have to pay more for the military, like a navy. I doubt Nevada would want to help pay for a warship that Californa wants. This also raises the question of central command, if attacked who is in command? Not a good idea at all.

Can't happen.....who dictates which State sends their Troops to any conflicts overseas? 50 separate Military units doesn't even make sense.

Rawanda had hundreds of thousands killed, and many many others with there arms chopped off becouse no one sent troops to restore order.
