I mean, the strains of E. coli that cause illness. Where in the world is it most common for a person to become sick because of this.

In raw, uncooked meat, especially poultry and beef. Even water too, sometimes.

Most common source is waste from farm animals. This breaks down and seeps into the water table (underground water or improperly sealed wells or lakes and rivers) causing the water to be high in e-coli bacteria. If veggies at the supermarket are washed with contaminated water sources, then e coli will be present on them. If veggies while growing are watered with contaminated water, then e coli will be present on them.
