The skeletal system is designed for support, mainly. It is also a reserve of calcium and houses your bone marrow, which gives rise to blood cells.

The main functions of the skeletal system are:
*Support
Bones give structure to the body and help keep it upright.
*Protection
Protects vital body organs. e.g. skull protects brain, ribcage protects heart and lungs, etc
*Movement
Bones acts as levers to produce movement (muscle is attached to bone and when the muscle contracts, movement is produced)
*Storage
Stores cells that produce blood cells and minerals and lipids (this is stored in the hollow part of the bone).
