It is a different type of exam.
Well baby examines are preventative in nature & try to catch chronic or developmental problems early so that they can be treated. Well baby examines are required by many schools & daycares prior to admission.
Sick exams are for solving a particular problem, like an ear infection or stomach ache.
Also, your health insurance may be setting boundaries for your doctor to opperate within so the problem may be your health insurance & not a greedy doctor.

Because of billing. Insurance companies are starting to nit pick. For example a check for a 6 month old had to be at 6 months or shortly there after. The doctor can't pass it off as a 6 month check up because insurance companies check the dates. Has nothing to do with the doctors. Most doctors have a billing company which really isn't associated with thier office. If on a rare occasion one runs across a doctor that his/her office also takes care of the billing then they do try to make it one visit unless they child needs to come back for shot. There is no way to pass that off.

A "well baby check up" is meant to be an annual review of your child's skills, maturation, growth, developmental progress and critical vacinations. This is the time when you can bring up any pressing issues (such as concerns with speech development, sleeping habits, nutrition) that you would not be able to bring up when you are rushing in with a sick child. The "sick check ups" are when your child is ill- no time for observations of behaviors or talking about how your child eats- time to get a prescription to get rid of that nasty ear infection (or whatever the ailment may be). They also keep the visits separate often because they have two separate clinic areas for well children and sick children. This helps to prevent cross contamination of children with potentially infectious diseases to those who are seeing the doc for their annual checkup. Doctors are so stretched for their time, that they generally offer more time to well check ups than to sick ones, for the sheer volume of sick children they have to squeeze into a day. You don't need a new doc... it is your child they are protecting by trying to keep well appointments separate from sick ones.

A Well Check is different than a sick check.
When your child is seen for an illness he/she is only examined in relation to the symptoms the child is experiencing.
A well check documents growth and references back to previous check ups. All systems are reviewed and the Pediatrician (if a good one) will also spend a good amount of time discussing the developmental stage your child is in, asking about social and emotional issues and answering any general questions you may have.

No you don't need to change doctors. Sick baby checks are to check a baby when they are sick. Well baby checks are to check developmental milestones and make sure that the child is growing correctly. The problem is that especially in infants, when they are sick, children can revert to a previous developmental stage and not show where they truly are.

Mine will always do the well baby if it is close but it depends on the age if under 6 months they do need to see the weight and give shots the a healthy baby. I would check in to another doc If you are not at ease with this one you are mommy and you know best

When your child is sick they cannot go to the Dr.s at the same time as healthy kids that are just getting check ups. if you've ever noticed most sick kid check ups are at a different time of the day than well check ups. and what he healthy they check things like ears eyes nose and the normal things. when hes sick they just check what it wrong with him.

It's just for their billing codes.
They bill you for a "well baby visit" which includes a weigh in, measuring, just talking about your baby's progress, etc.
Then, when your baby is sick, they concentrate on what the baby's symptoms are and how to get your baby better.
It's all for the insurance and billing codes.
