I bought a DVD player hoping i could play DVD-RW in it and i got the same Problem. If you want to play a DVD-RW in your DVD player you need to make sure the DVD Player is XviD or DivX compatible. it would say either on the box or in the player itself. The compatibility only occurs in newer DVD Players, the cheaper of which cost around $50 CAD

If the player's specs say it will play DVD-RW... it should work... If not... it won't ever work.

The disks may be of poor quality or the software you used to create them may not be compatable with your player. Can you make regular DVD-R with your software that will play on your player? If so... you should be OK there... If not... Try some different disk creation software...

Try writing the disks at 4X speed or less. Sometimes the quality of disks made at faster speeds is not good enough to play on some players.

Good luck!!! :)

Note that DVD-R and DVD-RW are the older standard format. Lot of consumer had problem with DVD players so DVD+R and DVD+RW was created to address this issue. You should really just use the + format and not use the -.

The nice advantage that the PS3 has over any Blu-Ray player (apart from the games), is that Sony makes firmware upgrades to enhance your Blu-Ray experience. Just two weeks ago, Sony added the Picture in Picture functionality and the Blu-Ray profile 1.0 and profile 2.0 - this is functionality which no other Blu-Ray player on today's market has - and current Blu-Ray players will never have as they do not have the option to upgrade firmware like the PS3 has. To sum up, if BluRay capabilities change Like they have done this past month), Sony can modify the PS3 to match that. You cannot do that with a Blu-Ray player
