I have got a HD Home Cinema System and a HD XBOX 360 but not a HD TV can i connect my XBOX to the system to have HD sound?

There is no such thing as HD sound. If you are talking about surround sound, then the answer is yes. The catch is that your TV needs to support component RCA. These connections come with the optical cable. The s-video and composite only come with stereo sound.

I think you are referring to digital sound. There are dolby 5.1 AC3 encoded sounds which are probably most widely used sound format next to DTS.

Another confusion is that HDTV has a HDMI. HDMI is a video format but the connector has a pin for getting digital audio at the same time. This is useful if your TV has the sound processor built in then it will just take both video and audio signal through the HDMI and the TV will do the rest. If you have a separate sound system. Then you need to connect the optical or coax audio output from XBOX to your sound system to reproduce the sound separate from HDTV.

theres no such thing as hd sound. your sounds only as good as your speakers. so buy really good speakers and have really good sound.
