Yes it can be hereditary. Why should she feel like its her fault? That's just silly. Its a chemical thing .

I bet you she would rather know about it so you can get some help for it, instead of keeping it to yourself. Talk with her , I'm sure she will find the right help for you both.

Don't be scared, I come from a family with a genetic history of depression. Trust me when I tell you it can be treated.

Depression can be hereditary. Many disorders like depression have been proven to have a genetic link. However, depression is also a symptom in many diseases, so the first thing to do is to see your doctor for a physical. Once a medical issue is ruled out, treatment can be looked at. Medication is not necessarily the best answer. Studies have proven that gentle exercise, like walking, can reduce the symptoms of depression with good success. If I were you, I would still make that doctor's appointment, but at the same time, I would examine my diet and make necessary changes to a healthy one and I would start walking 30 mins a day. Good luck!
BTW: I have been struggling with depression myself off and on since I was 16, so I know where of I speak.

Everyone gets depressed now and then and you've got to be careful not to confuse everyday stress and worry with true, full-blown depression. In reality, only someone trained to know the symptoms can distinguish for sure.

If you really suspect that yours is cronic though, I would suggest seeing your family doctor first and letting him / her refer you to a specialist that can correctly diagnose your condition. If it does turn out that you need medication, I'm sure you mother will rest easier knowing that your treating it instead of just trying to cope on your own.

No it's not hereditary. You're jumping to conclusions and upsetting yourself. Calm down. Your a normal kid, imagining symptoms because you're around it all day. Go have some fun!

Depression does tend to run in families. So they think there is some genetic component to it. I would go to your primary care doctor and talk about it. If you are honest with them they should be able to figure out if you have depression or not.
