After going through the pain of alcohol related pancreatitis.... why would he ever want to drink again? Some people do however and find themselves back again in the hospital. Usually a never ending cycle. The body's organs can only take so much abuse.

It's not clear in all instances just how alcohol affects the pancreas. But scientists do know that alcohol causes digestive enzymes to be released sooner than normal. It also increases the permeability of the small ducts that convey enzymes within the pancreas, which allows digestive juices to leak into and damage healthy tissue. What's more, excessive alcohol intake leads to the formation of protein plugs — precursors to small stones — that block parts of the pancreatic duct.

Patients with chronic pancreatitis should avoid alcohol altogether. If the pancreatitis is due to excess alcohol consumption, then this is essential. If it is due to other causes, then it seems sensible to avoid a substance which is capable of damaging the pancreas. If his Dr has advised not to drink then he definitely shouldn't!

NO! I alanost died from this disease and I can promise you, a drink could literally kill you. The attack this person had could not have been that bad, or else they would never risk the pain and torture that comes with a full blown bad attack. If this person can't stop then they need help-medical and psychological treatment and to understand their need to drink even though it can be deadly. There is nothing on earth that can make me drink alcohol again after whT I endured, I was one your away from death and went into shock and a coma. Believe me, if you had pancreatitis, it's your body's way of telling you to stay away from alcohol.

I have hereditary pancreatitis and no you can never drink again. Unfortunate, I know but it will increase his risk of having furthur episodes and eventually that will lead to chronic pancreatitis. He will know how painful the condition is and therefore should heed his Doctors advice and stop drinking. He should also be on a low fat diet.

If he were smart, he would not drink alcohol.
If he was not much of a drinker to begin with, it should make no difference to him, should it.

Alcohol and pancreatitis do not work well together.
It could be very painful, end him up in the hospital and could be potentially fatal.

because alcohol is a poison to the body, wasn't that bout of pancreatic bad enough for him, or does he want to run the risk of it happening again or worse. the pancreas shuts down, diabetic coma, Gee let me see, do I want to risk dying to have a couple beers with my friends. Sorry I'm so brutal but my bro died that way.

I wouldn't drink again if I were you! Occasionally pancreatitis is fatal, is it worth the risk?

Well was it alcohol that caused the pancreatitis? I'd say drink in moderation if he wants to if he's that bothered.

my suggestion is that if he doesn't want to give up drinking completely is to cleanse, so that he can drink & not be "affected" by it. there's a great website that can aid people w/ different ailments, pancreas problems is one of them. here's the link: http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=261

i've done the liver & gallbladder cleanse twice from this website. now i'm doing colonix & toxinout from www.drnatura.com
