Here are the major details:
My husband was injured in Iraq. He has a broken rib and some back problems. By the doctor's recommendations, he was sent home.
When he finally got home, I spoke to the person who is going to be in charge of him while he is home and said there is no way he is going back to Iraq. I assumed that once his injuries were healed, he would be going back. But for my husband, this is not the case.
So my husband asked him about this, and he told him he had failed the psych test and that was the main reason he won't be going back. I asked my husband what they tested, and he said it seemed like they were testing his memory. As in the doctor would say a series of numbers or words, and he would have to repeat them in the same order. Something along those lines anyway.
So now he has an appointment with a caseworker who said that he is going to see a neurologist. Why would he need to see a neurologist?

Thats the thing with the military. You have to be in perfect shape before you leave and you have to be in perfect shape when you get home. If they have any doubt they will send him to a specialist. He may be totally fine, but they have to check him out just in case. Don't worry too much yet. Just hope and pray he is OK and be glad he doesn't have to go back!! Good luck!

First, the injuries you mentioned sound like they can also result in a concussion or brain trauma. The test you mentioned is a simple diagnostic that can reveal difficulties caused by cortical damage (the outer layer of the brain). Because you mentioned no other problems at home, his symptoms and difficulties may be minor or transient. The best person to tell him and you what might or might not be wrong and the affects is a neurologist.
Whether he's medically discharged or can be rehabilitated to full duty is probably dependent on what the neurologist finds.
You can probably expect some more memory and manipulation tests plus some MRI-series of his head to identify what and if there is a problem.

Why is he seeing a neurologist? I assume he's been to see a few doctors and this is where the examinations will become serious. The people in the military hospitals/V.A. Hospitals are very caring people so I can asure you he ( Husband) will be well taken care of. The fact his memory may be a little short ( From extream stress in Iraq?) is a concern for the doctors. Keep us posted and I hope for the best. Take care.

Memory problems are generated in the brain, dear. Many soldiers have low level brain injuries that come from the percussion of the explosions they were exposed to in Iraq. Neurologists can perform tests that find problems, and if possible, treat them. This is a good thing for you and your husband. If there are ways to work around problems, they will help you with that. Similar to the way people who have had mild strokes can recover by learning new ways to do things. Good luck to you both.

My dad hallucinated (suggested issues that weren't there) to boot. Lewy body disease develop into clinically determined after he develop into considered through a geriatric professional. The neurologist develop into only in contact about his gait disease and wanted not something to do with the confusion, memory issues and hallucinations. Sinemet did not something to help him. i comprehend how frightening it really is, yet each from time to time waiting to confirm what develops is all that is performed. Have they performed a Cat experiment of your husband's mind? If I remember properly the hallmarks of Lewy body might want to be considered on the mind. As you maximum in all probability comprehend Parkinson's is led to through a lack of dopamine which Sinemet can help with, yet Lewy body there are adjustments in the mind that is seem with perfect radiological thoughts. Sorry, I probable have not been of a lot help, yet I understand your soreness. solid success.

Neurological disorders are disorders that affect, among other things, the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The doctors either suspect something or want to rule out something.

If he is having trouble remembering things, it seems logical to be concerned that he experienced brain trauma in whatever accident he had. The docs want to make sure everything's okay or find out what's wrong.
