Unfortunately it's sold as seen in most private transactions.
If you requested a receipt (which you really need to do!) then I would try and get in touch with the person that sold it and have a discussion with them regarding your problems.
It's likely though that you will not get any further forward this way. Put this one down as a lesson learned.

You could always sell it on. ;¬)

What do you advise via 'inner maximum broker' Do you advise a private sale from somebody's abode,or an approved vehicle broker? Do you have a receipt that's signed and dated as evidence of purchase Does the receipt, in case you have one say 'bought as seen' paying for a 2d hand vehicle is often risky, quite in case you probably did no longer take a properly recommended guy or woman with you What they are able to't do is state it has an MOT while it hasn't yet once you had a try stress and have been happy with that and did no longer ask any questions Did you no longer experience the grasp slippy once you drove the vehicle? then regrettably there is probable no longer something you're able to do via all ability telephone paying for and advertising standards, extensive style interior the yellow pages, and see in the event that they are able to grant any help

You should phone the RAC, you don't have to be a member, they will deal with this type of enquiry 0800 0566 384 and give advice.

From a legal point of view, it depends on if you bought the car from a dealer, or privately. Dealers have to declare the catagory of the vehicle and mileages must never been tampered.

Wrong people, even private transactions UNLESS STATED BY THE SELLER are not sold as seen and the vehicle has to be roadworthy and legal unless stated as not. Call citizens advise first but take it up with your local trading standards office as well and get some dosh back....go tear em a new *** girl!

if you bought the car privately youre stuffed and if you bought from a dealer you arent much better off as the mileage issue somewhere in the small print it will say mileage not guaranteed and the dealer will get out of it by saying he had no knowledge of the accident damage asd he only has to tell you if he knows himself. a nice little get out clause for the trader and its down to you to prove the dealer knew about damage and mileage. sorry

Have you thought of contacting 'Trading Standards', your local council will be able to give you more information.
