Yes they will still take you but during basic training you'll be in your own special group for those with weight problems. They'll have you do more physical training (running, push ups etc) until either you lose the weight they need you to lose or you quit or they say that it's not working and they discharge you. If it's a few pounds then you should have no problem and be back with your regular basic training outfit in a few weeks. Good luck if you choose to join up.

What Goofy said is pretty much right.
You still have to meet certain standards to be accepted, but if you don't meet the minimum fitness standard when you report for basic, you'll go to the fitness company. When I went through they used to call it "FITCO"...when we would run past it during our formation runs, the drill sergeants would yell out something to the effect of "Look at those unsat privates over in FATCO." and then make us mooo like cows at them.
My understanding is that the Army is a different place now.

Here is some good info on AR 600-9. If you do make it to basic the army will have a special diet to help you lose weight, and a good amount of PT, and remedial PT if needed. As with anything your results will depend on your desire to succeed.

Yes, Loose the weight. You will feel better and being in shape for Basic etc.. will make it easier. Do not become discouraged. Some times your recruiter will help you set up a conditioning program to help you loose the weight. Keep trying and you will make it.

It depends on how over weight you are! They have ways of helping you lose weight, but they do not want to have to work hard to make you lean. If you are just a bit over weight, then they can turn that body into a lean mean fighting machine. If you are quite over weight, then you have to lose the weight before they will even think about taking you.
