I had braces for 2 years and they're finally off. I can't even tell you how happy I am. On the day you're getting them on, take Tylenol before you go to prevent brain. When they start to put them on they put a giant thing in your mouth to keep it open which can be very annoying. Then they individually place cement on each bracket and place it on your tooth. This part doesn't hurt at all, but your cheeks will be very scraped up from the thing that holds it open. Afterwards, your mouth will feel awkward since there's new stuff on your teeth that has never been there before, and your gums will probably get cut up from the brackets. They probably won't hurt for the first day and you'll assume that the pain will never come, like I did. Unfortunately, it does. You'll wake up the next day and your mouth will feel HORRIBLE. Like someone above me said, it will feel like a truck ran over your mouth. There is so much pressure and it just makes your whole jaw/mouth hurt and sometimes a headache. Also, you might think you look ugly lol, but trust me, you get over it and realize you look fine. Surprisingly, when I got my braces OFF I thought I looked bad because I was so used to having them on! For the first week after your braces are put on you won't be able to eat hard foods, I ate Ramen Chicken Noodle Soup the whole time. Also, it might feel like you can't close your mouth together all the way, like your teeth won't close, but that doesn't last long. Taking asprin frequently and eating cold things like ice cream can help with the pain. When you get them tightened, they will hurt the next day or two, but not that badly. Also, as for foods you can/can't eat, I'd say there is no rules. I chewed gum, ate popcorn, and basically did everything they told you not to, and only broke 2 brackets. One was from a Snickers though, so I might not suggest eating VERY crunchy things. Lastly, always use your wax! Wires will pop out alot or will be poking you after you get a new wire put in. Placing wax on it can help with so much of the annoying pain. Make sure you brush your teeth really good, because I didn't and now I regret that. I don't have marks from the brackets but my teeth still aren't as white as before. My last advice is when you get your retainer when you get your braces off, WEAR IT! I know you don't want to but trust me you should. I've now had my braces off sicne October, and if I skip ONE night without wearing my retainer, my teeth still shift a little and can sometimes hurt.

That's all, lol I know that was really long.
Please give me best answer! =] It took a while to type that all!

Braces are awesome. I have them. They've got to be the coolest invention in the entire world! Anyway... *Before getting your braces on, I suggest you fill yourself up. Your teeth will be very sorry for about 2-4 days, so eating won't be your favorite activity. If you don't have brackets on all of your teeth, chew with those. It won't hurt. *You'll need wax. Even if you say you'll never use it, take some just in case. Brackets can break off, or wire can come off, and trust me, you don't want painful sores in your mouth, do you? *They won't make your mouth stick out (normally). Most of my friends have braces, and only one of them looked different (with their mouth closed). *Try not to eat hard candies. At least, don't bite into them. They'll break your brackets off. *Make sure there is no food stuck in them, it looks gross. (:D)

pain...lots and lots of pain. the insides of your cheeks will get all scraped up and your teeth will feel like a truck went over them. buy a big bottle of advil and some applesauce (you wont be able to eat anything hard) then a few days later...nothing. then you get them tightened and they only hurt for a day or two.
BRACES TIPS
take a tylenol right before you go to your appointment

get black or grey bands...the colors look stupid and wont always match your outfit

use the wax you are given. they give it out for a reason

brush well (you really will get your teeth stained and you'll have noticiable marks were the brackets were!)

the no gum rule...is useless. not a day goes by that i dont chew gum and i have never gotten it stuck in my braces!

I just got my braces on in November. My top teeth were crowded and not all that straight while my bottom teeth were the same. I have had them for just over 5 months and my top teeth have almost straightened out completely. My bottom teeth are almost there, too, however they but those on about 7 weeks after my top braces.

when you first get them on, it will take a couple of days to get used to the feeling of them on your teeth. You'll sort of feel like it makes your lips stick out 5 feet, but you will get used to it after a few days. Expect your teeth to be sore. When they first put your braces on, and any time they do a tightening, your teeth will be sore for 2 or 3 days as your teeth respond to the pressure. It will subside, but it will take anywhere fromm 2 days to a week. If it hurts too much, you can swap out taking Advil and Tylenol every 2-3 hours. (Take an advil, wait three hours, then take an advil, wait another three hours.) When you first get your braces on, you might take an advil about an hour beforehand so that it will kick in when you get them on.

Food will get stuck in them pretty easily. I've learned not to try to pull food out of them until AFTER I'm done eating, otherwise I'll spend more time picking at my teeth with my tongue than actually eating.

One other thing to prepare yourself for... I'm not sure how your bite is, but if your bit isn't level, (Meaning your bottom and top teeth don't really align when you bite down) you may have to have a bite turbo put in. My bottom teeth sort of slant inward, so when I close my mouth my top teeth sit in a way that they hit the front side of my molars. When they put my bottom braces on, my teeth were hitting the brackets, so they put a bite turbo on my upper front tooth to keep my top teeth from hitting the bottom brackets. It also effectively keeps my mouth fromm closing, making it difficult to chew. If they do this to you, be prepared to have to start eating softer foods for awhile, because you won't be able to chew tougher stuff.

Only other thing is make sure that your wires are trimmed properly in the back of your mouth. Nothing is more annoying than a wire that sticks out and stabs you in the cheek repeatedly.

I'm not going to lie, braces aren't the most fun experience I've had, but they also aren't as bad as some people have told me they would be. Once you get used to them, you'll likely forget they are even there. It will definately be worth it, so don't worry about that.

my braces had some good effects that it made my smile great. but i had some trouble: wires break and brackets come off, but not that often. when they are tightend you cant eat much and only soft foods. The worsed part is no carmel popcorn or cornnuts. The braces make it hard to floss and you have have a specal brush to clean between the braces.

good luck

I wish you accepted IM or email. You are quite rude. Your comment about get your nasty mouth fixed is just ignorant. Some people have certain conditions for different reasons. You don't need to judge people.

first couple weeks they gonna hurt, the first couple minutes might not tho, and flossings a *****, u have to individually floss every single one like ur stiching ur tooth. and food gets stuck in their alot and its hard to get it out. also ur breath smells worse if u dont take good care of it from all the food rotting in ur teeth

i had to eat nothin but bread and syrup for a week, cuz my teeth were too weak, of course my teeth were really screwed up, thus being harder to get used to em
