Hi, so I have been in great shape for a while now- I workout 6 days a week- (I do weights 3 x a week and then cardio 3x a week) But the past few weeks I have noticed I am getting wider in my hips and butt- like bulking up a bit- and I do not want that! I use light weight, and do high reps. I have workouts on dvd I do. I am 5'7 and I was 120 (which is thin, yes) I have gained 5 pounds which I know is nothing, and many cannot even tell, but I know and am wondering if I am doing something wrong? I have eaten the same for years now....so that cannot be it. Any suggestions?

First of all check your body mass ratio to your age and weight etc. If it is within reasonable limit, leave it at that. There are always ups an downs in weight. As you grow older, your weight keeps increasing. Since you are into exercising, the weights should not cause a problem but once you stop doing exercises, you would put on weight automatically. So check your body mass data and compare it later on, say after a month. If it shows signs of increase, then see a doctor.

It could be your metabolism slowing down, give it a little time, if you continue to gain weight then i reccomend a doctor's visit. It could be a problem with hormones like cortosol. Just keep doing what you do and keep an eye on yourself and look for other symptoms. Hope I could help.

Have your thyroid levels tested. Hypothyroid can cause weight gain and water retaining symptoms even if you exercise and watch what you eat correctly.

Low thyroid levels can cause metabolism to slow to a hault.
