I'm off to L.A. in a few weeks and was wondering what the local microbrewed beers are like? Also could you recommend some ones worth trying out.I'll be staying in the Downtown area and wont travel outside that area much at all.
Cheers

For my money the best microbrews (if they still qualify for that designation) in SoCal come from Stone Brewery in San Diego County. I'd call them "extreme beers", as they are in no way subtle. Each one is designed to make say "Damn!" after the first sip. Every one of them is good, and your enjoyment potential is limited only by your own ability, or lack thereof, to drink intense beers. Be an Arrogant Bastard- drink Stone!

Look for any of the Alesmith beers out of San Diego. They (and Stone) are among the best in the country.
P.S. Almost forgot Anchor beers
