The first one is correct

The second one is not; es+(.....)+ que is a comparative formula. You could say "es mejor que" (better than), "es peor que" (worse than) , etc, but you can't use the word preferible in this context, because it's not comparative. If you want to make it comparative you need to add "mas" (more), "menos" (less);...es mas preferible que...;... es menos preferible que...

Well.... I would say;

"Vivir es preferible a soñar" (This is a very formal sentence)

"Vivir es mejor que soñar" (so.. since "preferible" is a formal word a wouldn´t use it with "que", then I would change the word "preferible" for another one like "mejor".

Yes, both are correct. you can say:

Correr es preferible a quedarse sentado
Es preferible que seas tú el que lo haga

Vivir es preferible a soñar.

Not really but they can mean the same thing it depends how you put it in a sentence the first one you are saying that live is preffered to dream, and the other one that you rather live than to dream

You can use both, they are correct , you would just use two differente words to compare it.
