I have been, from time to time, highly active in paranormal circles.
Science or not, I have found that many in the paranormal community are "religious" in their ghost hunting.
Very much like those involved in aliens and the idea of aliens. It becomes their religion.

The paranormal rarely stands up to scientific scrutiny, but that doesn't define it as a religion. Science wouldn't be something that defined religion anyway.
Most of the paranormal, like religion, doesn't fall under what can be scientifically investigated (if not repeatable or disprovable) often, so doesn't fall under the pervue of science.

We must have discovered everything. Now we can stop looking. Millions of humans, throughout all of history, have all been hallucinating.
