It was just an excuse for an ordinary mortal to claim supernatural powers, all religions require the same lie to get going. Like Muhammad was alone in the cave when the angel came, and Buddha was alone under the tree, and Moses was all alone to see the burning bush. Every story is completely impossible to verify for good reason, none of them is true. We just have to take Mary's word that Joseph wasn't frisky one night.

You cannot grasp this concept because it does not exist. God did not come to the world incarnate. And try to be just a bit more respectful. References to God 'shagging' and having extramarital affairs really is not necessary in order to get your point across.
As to why God did not fashion Jesus out of dirt, the reasons are many, too many to post here in my response. Suffice it to say that Jesus was sent to, among other things, redeem what Adam lost. Adam was a perfect human who lost the opportunity to live forever on earth, in a paradise, as a perfect human who would never grow old, get sick, or die. This is what Adam lost. This is what Jesus came to redeem. But if Jesus had been fashioned out of dirt, he would not be of the offspring of man. Which brings us to another reason: the right of the kinsman and the value of his shed blood to repurchase mankind.
The more one knows about how complete and efficacious the ransom sacrifice was, the more appreciation one has for God who made it all possible. The less one knows, the more one tends to minimize the ransom; misunderstand the ransom, and make fun of the ransom. It really is a wonder of justice, loving-kindness and mercy.

God can ultimately choose to do anything he wants, and he could have just as easily chosen to have Jesus appear on Earth a full grown man, or whatever he wanted. But he chose to allow Jesus to be incarnated through a woman, because it was more fitting as he saw it. God did not have an extra-marital affair, because that would involve sex, and Mary remained a virgin throughout her entire life. God of course does not marry.

God needed a way to bring Jesus into the world as a BABY. A woman needed to get pregnant for that to happen. Adam and Eve were adults and didn't need the guidance a baby needs. And no, God didn't want to 'shag' Mary. What are you, 9? Come on, any adult with a bit of integrity would find that offensive. Please don't talk about my God that way.

I just want to point out to Michelle that God is said to have created Adam and Eve and they are supposedly to have been very much human. Why did he NEED Mary in order to have Jesus come to as HUMAN?

the curse on women was to bear children, eve was the cause of this curse. and as you so crudely put it God did not shag Mary the conception of Jesus was imaculate, meaning no sexual act took place, you should really read THE BOOK, it's quite good and learn alot.
From precious g's husband: Plus Jesus would have never been the son of man if God created Jesus from dirt like he did with adam and eve. and plus Jesus never stated that he had any mother besides mary. so meaning mary is Gods wife and Mary is Jesus one and only mother is Mary. and puls Mary was virgin and it was and angel sent by God to plant God's seed into Marry.

Jesus' incarnation had to be like any other man's. He had to be born, live and die like any other man. Otherwise, he couldn't possibly identify with each of us. And therefore, he couldn't possibly be an acceptable sacrifice for us. Also, to make irreverent references to the method He used is tasteless. He's God. He could form Adam from dust and Eve from Adam's rib, but it was outside His capability to impregnate Mary without having sex with her? Are you reducing Him to man's level? Or is it a weak attempt at humor? You're wrong. You can grasp the concept. You're just unwilling to.

Hey Dude:
You're so funny.
I have NO theology to back this up. All I have is reading several different versions of the bible. And some historical study.
So take it all with a grain of salt.
I believe God was incarnated through Mary in order to more fully experience the human condition. God had parents. Mary and Joseph. Sure sure, Joseph was a foster father, as it were. But they raised him, cared for him.
God knows us, as people, so much better for having lived as equally as we have. God lived as a child. So he understands our childishness.
Just thoughts. Catch ya later.

Who said there was "shagging" going on? - even us puny mortals know of things like invitro fertilization where a woman can become pregnant without ever having sex, surly God knows about things like that.
Why did Jesus need a mortal mom? Because He needed His body to inherit a very important mortal trait - the ability to die. He couldn't have done the whole atonement thing without that ability.

It was not to "shag" Mary as you so crudely put it.
Jesus needed to come forth as in human form and to do this He had to be born just like the rest of us poor souls.
Don't make more of it and get the mind out of the gutter
