Well, the proverb says that strong drink is a brawler.
But I would hardly call beer a 'strong drink'.
Most beer has less alcohol per volume than wine does, and the cat's piss that is American beer is even lower.
Besides, the whole proverb sounds like it was written by a total lightweight who couldn't handle his booze.
So, if wine is a mocker, I'd say that beer is a fine accompaniment to wings, pizza or chili.
