I'm having a Victorian style, June wedding with swans and red roses (not real swans...). For my favors we are looking into getting/making chocolate swans. Our back-up plan is to fill the little plastic swans with candy. What do you think should go in them? We are trying to avoid the tackiness that usually comes with those plastic swans...

I know the chocolate swans is a better idea, and even possible, but I'm on a VERY tight budget. The plastic swan idea is separate. not the same, so no, I won't be filling the chocolate swans.

Totally off the subject of swans and chocolate, but I recieved a bookmark with the couple's name, date, etc on it...but not only was it a bookmark but it had seeds embedded in them. Guests could take them and plant the bookmark and have a reminder of your wedding! I don't know where you are located at to tell you where we got them around here, but if you search "Seeded bookmarks" on Google or whatever a million sites selling them will come up. That seems Victorian to me...flowers, ribbons etc. I agree with the woman earlier about the plastic swans seeming tacky...sorry but you asked.

why not fill the plastic swans with the wedding rice that everyone will throw when you leave? Since most people really will not keep the swans, it is a way to incorporate them into your wedding and not have to worry about them keeping them or not. If you are really wanting to put them on the tables or on display for the guests, use them as place card holders.

I would put a rosebud in the plastic swan--very victorian...the favor doesn't have to be something edible, and I don't know whether you've considered this, but if you're on a tight budget--do you even have to give favors? I can't remember doing anything with them other than throwing them away-use your money toward something that guests will appreciate.
Maybe you could put one larger one per table filled with creamy mints for after dinner?

What about a keepsake box (wood or glass) with a swan etched on it? If the box is wood then there should be glass on top for the etching. Then you can also etch the date of the wedding too.
To be honest with you, plastic swans are still going to be something that people will throw away. If you want your guests to keep them, maybe you can make them into a christmas ornament? Or a wine bottle stopper? Photo holders? You could fill it with seeds or something to plant. Herbs... I don't know, something different :-)

If you are on a tight budget why not make chocolate swans??? You could get a mold and just get the chocolate and melt and pour. Then set a couple swans on each place setting or maybe put them in a little bag with a thank you not attached..

No offense but those plastic swans are always tacky...especially when filled with candy. My best friend was able to find a mold to make chocolate golf balls so I'm sure you can find one in the shape of a swan. Id stick with that. Good luck and congratulations!

You could put dinner mints, wedding M&Ms, small hard candies, things like that, though I think the chocolate swans would be much prettier and more elegant.
As another suggestion, when I saw the title of your question, I immediately thought of these placecard holders I found yesterday (they could probably double as wedding favors). Set of 4 "Be Seated" Victorian Chair Tealight Place Card Holder. They're really cute, and very reasonably priced. Good luck!

I love the origami swan idea!! (Even if it's not quite victorian, it's a good idea)

You could package your chocolate swans like this - it would be VERY inexpensive, plus you could do a rose in with the swans instead of the heart:

The candy mold itself is fairly inexpensive as well, and you may be able to get them at a craft or kitchen store and not have to order them online and pay shipping:

You mean hollow chocolate swans? White chocolate?
I'd make sure a chocolatier can actually make them hollow, for you. They might be tricky to create. But you could fill them with very tiny mints or mini m&ms (although that would get expensive pretty quick).
Victorians were very into lace and ribbons so I'd tie each chocolate swan with a ribbon, also maybe package them with a lacey doilly...

You could make little origami paper swans. It would be cute and a little more upscale than the plastic swans. There are tons of patterns on the internet, and you can get paper matching your wedding colors at michaels.com/
