Depends on the book you read.

Gen. 17:1 “Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty ; Walk before Me, and be blameless"

John 1:18 “No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.”

[edit] Thumbs down for quoting the Bible? Now, I know how Christians feel.

Yes it is possible.
They saw the God of Israel, Ex. 24: 9-11. The skin of his face shone while he talked with God, Ex. 34: 29 (Mark 9: 2-3). Jesus’ face did shine, Matt. 17: 2 (Mark 9: 2-3). Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory, 2 Cor. 3: 7. Abinadi’s face shown with exceeding luster, Mosiah 13: 5-9. They were encircled about as if by fire, Hel. 5: 23, 36, 43-45 (3 Ne. 17: 24; 19: 14). They were as white as the countenance of Jesus, 3 Ne. 19: 25. It did seem unto them like a transfiguration, 3 Ne. 28: 15. No man has seen God in the flesh, except quickened by the Spirit, D&C 67: 10-12. By the power of the Spirit our eyes were opened, D&C 76: 12. The glory of God was upon Moses, Moses 1: 2. His glory was upon me; and I beheld his face, for I was transfigured, Moses 1: 11. I beheld the heavens open, and I was clothed upon with glory, Moses 7: 3-4.

When it is said that no man has seen God in the flesh it refers to mortals flesh as we are now. To see the face of God there must be a transfiguration in order to behold the Glory of God. When transfigured one sees with their spiritual eyes, not their mortal eyes.

Exodus 33:11 says "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend."

I do know there are some scriptures suggesting otherwise, so the best I can do is give you my understanding of this - I don't think any mortal could be in the presence of God in all his glory and survive it - however mortals can be transfigured into a mortal state of glory that would allow for this kind of face-to-face interaction that Moses had.

so, short answer: Normal mortal state? - no, Trasfigured state? -yes.

Not if you want to keep living. A human cannot take looking upon God. A human can barely look at the sun.

In order to see God, one must be a divine person in the heavens (like angels).

The Bible says no. Exactly why the Bible does not say.

Science fiction has a possible answer. If something was so unfamilar to our experience, so beyond our comprehension our brains could not except it, we would go mad and die.

The Creator of the universe would qualify.

"O my God, I am too ashamed and disgraced to lift up my face to you, my God, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens.

No, God is spirit. When we are totally purified in Heaven we can experience God fully and in that sense "see God". For thse of us who are Christians, we believe that we see God face to face when we see the Risen Jesus at our Resurrection.
