Eating popcicles. I know a neurologist that said drink a slurpee or eat ice cream when you feel the migraine starting. The Brain Freeze will stop the migraine in its tracks. Now my freezer is stocked with treats like frozen juice bars and popcicles, but I also have Imitrex on hand, too. Sometimes the headache has progressed to the point where I can't get to a frozen treat and I feel like I'm going to vomit, making any food out of the question. Then I pop an Imitrex, turn on the white noise machine and crawl into bed.

One of the best home remedies I've ever tried for migraines is to wrap up in an electric blanket set on high from the shoulders down. Then put an ice pack on the side of your neck that you have the migraine on, and another one on your temple and forehead area. The reason this works is that the heat draws the extra blood that's in your head due to the migraines down back into your body and the ice closes up your veins and pushes the blood down back into your body. My headache specialist recommended that I try this whenever I get migraines on a daily basis and I say that wrapping up like this and putting on the ice pack makes a real difference. Also, keep the lights off while you are lying in the blanket and see if you can drift off to sleep. That always helps.

I had a doc tell me that when you feel the onset, squeeze half a lemon in to a glass of cool water and drink it. It's supposed to be some sort of chemical reaction or vascular blood thinning reaction... It didn't work worth a crap for me but maybe it will for you. Then again, Imitrex doesn't work for me so what do I know...? I take Excedrin migraine and lay down with a heat pack over my eyes for at least 30 minutes in a cool and quiet room. It's the only thing that makes them go away. I have to have a heat pack because ice packs cause me to slur my speech, temporarily loose peripheral vision and generally make the headache worse. It's weird... I feel for you... Hope it improves!

When I have a migraine headache, I use Imitrex injectable and since I use it at home, that's my "home remedy".
Some real home remedies involve stress relief. Stay in a cool, dark, quiet room. Use aromatherapy - Lavender, Peppermint, Sandalwood and Eucalyptus. Bathe in it and burn scented candles. Self-massage therapy may help by using one or two drops of scented oil on the fingertips. Massage the temples & neck in circular motions.
Using Excedrin Migraine formula or other OTC meds may help, but they're not technically home remedies and that's what you asked for.

Hi there?
I think i can feel your pain coz i used to have migraine every single day! I've tried medicines different kinds but Exedrin is the best for me. It can be either for tension headache or for migraine. Drink lots of liquid, rest and best of all don't worry about small things in your life, just ignore it, don't starve or make yourself tired. Don't give yourself too much pressure!!!! Go to different places like park, mountain...etc anywhere that makes you relaxed. Plus, make a new friend or a companion who makes you happy. Laughter and happiness is the only way you can beat it!!!! It all worked for me and hopefully it will for you!
Be happy ok! ; )
Good Luck!

This is what sometimes works for me. Cold compresses or ice on the area that hurts the most. Sometimes I cover my eyes with something cool, it just seems to relax everything. I also do neck rolls, and light stretches through my shoulder and neck area. And I lay down while doing the ice or cold thing. This may sound silly but I also use imagery to ease the pain. I picture cool breezes blowing across my face while lying in some quiet spot, like a beach or something like that, and I listen to the sound of the water from the ocean or lake that I pretend I am at. With migraines I think it helps alot to try to relax and think about other things then the pain of them. Anyways this is what helps me, hope you find some relief for your pain.

Yes I do!! Whenever I get a migraine and have a big cup of home made chicken soup. I put carrots, tomatoes, tring beans, chicken ( skinless ) and any other thing like that should work. I also relaze and try to get rest, that way I can't feel the pain and I am not thinking of the pain. Get Better!!!

This is not a cure for migraines, but a prevention. Take the herb feverfew every day following the directions on the bottle for the dosage in the bottle. This totally eliminated migraines for my wife.
