I mean every generation has said they will be the witnesses of Jesus' return, but obviously they've all been wrong. I mean didn't He say He'd be back before His generation had passed? Now I know I never was able to figure out what parts of the Bible to take literal, but it's starting to look like He isn't coming back, I mean there's been plagues, and world wars, that could have easily become armaggedon, but still nothing. I mean you got to admit it really doesn't look like He's coming back.

So my secondary question would be how long should we wait until we give up on Jesus coming back, can we say 500 more years?

No man knows the hour nor the day.
He said people would say where is the promise of his coming.
Read the Bible Matthew chapter 24 tell of the signs of the times.

It's going to get a whole lot worse before he returns. Great tribulation such as never have been before he returns.

He said he would return before the generation which he was talking about would pass away. The generation he was talking about is your generation. God has given us about 6000 years to do as we please, at the end of that time Jesus will come. The 6000 years is almost up. About 2012, the time will be up. First though this nation will go into a great depression, worse than the great depression. About 100 million of us will starve to death. We are at this time entering into the depression. It's all in the book. Yes the U.S. is mentioned in the bible and the things that are going to happen here. It is mentioned by it's old name, prior to us comming here.

He said he would come back at an hour that no one except the father knew. I think it will be sometime soon because we still have to go through the tribulation first.

You should read the book Revelation in the bible and it gives you an idea of when he's back.

He's coming back alright. the world IS coming to an end. antichrists will rise up, there will be great destruction... think about it. all these gay and lesbian people now. the numbers have started to grow. everything's going crazy. hey, the rain never comes when you ask for it. you don't get things just because you expect it to come right away. you've gotta wait and the day's gonna come someday.

He has already 'returned'.
There is a study to be done on the difference between 'return' and 'presence'.
Don't go looking for him physically.
He has 'returned' in the sense that his attention (from heaven) is once again toward the earth.
Don't limit yourself to the KJV.
It was written well over 400 years ago.
Language is in a constant state of flux.
Please obtain a number of more modern translations and use them all.
400 years ago the word 'return' was understood to mean 'presence'.

Actually, He came back in May of 1682, in a small village in northern France.

Unfortunately, He caught whooping cough and died at age 3.

Too bad God didn't think to include a chapter on medicine in the Bible.

Jesus came back yesterday. Gosh. I can't believe you missed it. We had a parade and everything.

But seriously, you make some good points. Assuming that we don't destroy ourselves, and our intelligence level fails to evolve any further, will Christians still be waiting for Jesus, say 1 million years from now? When will they give up?

"When is Jesus coming back?"
"...Where is the promise of his coming?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 Peter 3:3-5 (King James Version)

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

To answer your question he comes back at the end of the 7 year tribulation period. The key is Jerusalem. It will be both invaded and surrounded.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke 21:19-21 (King James Version)

19In your patience possess ye your souls.

20And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke 21:24-28 (King James Version)

24And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

25And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

we should never lose faith in Christ if you weren't lukewarm about christianity you would know that. have you ever thought that maybe Jesus wants to give the sinners a chance to repent so that we may dwell in his kingdom. here are some words of wisdom for you: trust and obey for there's no other way, to be happy in jesus than to trust and obey.

As soon as God gives Him clearance. Jesus told us that the time is not for us to know, that only our heavenly Father knows. So as soon as God gives the OK, we can expect to see the return of Jesus.
